Therein lies a serious problem with Quora. I’m a little annoyed right now with Quora. I’ve been a “Top Writer” in ~4–6 topics, at the moment I’m a Top Writer in these: What Top Writer means is my Answers get a lot of views and in-turn Quora makes a lot of money from ad impressions — meanwhile, I make nothing. I’m not on Quora for money, I’m on Quora to share some knowledge. And when you’re sharing knowledge for free, actually at your own expense, and it’s just deleted on a whim — yes, that pisses me off! On Nov. 8, 2019 I found out Quora deleted 2 of my Comments, not Answers but Comments. Sadly I spent about 2 hours of my hard-earned time writing these Comments. They were both deleted without even a message from Quora Moderation — just deleted. I’ll give you a background on this particular situation but there has been many others that question my participation in Quora — then I’ll give you a lot of time-saving advice so you end up far less frustrated than I have. So this Question was asked: With competition increasing in electric car market, do you think Tesla is losing its edge? And there was one particularly “Answer” from ,User-13110067736708343671, that was highly deceptive. In short, what he wrote was a false narrative that Tesla was not popular in Europe. He then goes on to make this comment: “Tesla has started selling much awaited (and cheaper) Model 3 costing “only" US$54 thousand in UK, recently. But the vehicle looks so flimsy and poorly put together, that instead of attracting new Tesla buyers, the Tesla model 3 will actually help European car makers to capture the market quicker.” Then he goes on to say the car is not popular because new car registrations don’t have the Model 3 in the top-10 and goes on to show the list of top-10 cars for Jan. 2019. Problem is the car wasn’t available until May 2019! Then he shows Tesla Showrooms with no people in them, attempting to paint the picture that Tesla’s are not popular. It’s the same old recipe for a false narrative that attempts to harm the reputation of Tesla. The main reason people do this is to manipulate the stock price via short selling. By saying Tesla Model 3 is not selling well, then showing stats a year before it was being sold is deceptive. I did write one comment that was not deleted, it showed actual sales figures in 2019: Model 3: #1 Selling Car in Italy (September 2019) #1 Selling Car in Norway (September 2019) #1 Selling Car in Netherlands (September 2019) #1 Selling Car in Switzerland (March 2019) About the only thing it’s helping European car makers do is to help their CEOs resign: Tesla Domination Reportedly Cause Of BMW CEO Resignation This “flimsy” vehicle is responsible for a serious beat-down of BMW and everyone else. As a Model 3 owner I can also say with first-hand knowledge that there is nothing “flimsy” about the Model 3. Many former BMW M3 owners prefer their new Model 3s and are rather vocal about this in numerous forums. Then the OA replies and I respond with a fact-filled comment complete with links. I find out Sunday Nov. 10, 2019 that my comment was deleted Friday November 8, 2019. So now when you look at the Comments you see this: Since he had also said in a comment that he’d only buy an EV made by a European Manufacturer I posted another Comment that said if Tesla opens their Gigafactory in Europe, I’ll let you use my Tesla Referral code to order one. You can see in the thread he’s responding to that, yet my comments are all deleted providing no useful context for any readers of this. So what actually happened here? R Jensen posted a misleading, actually manipulative Answer. I shot it down into a fricken’ ball of flames. He didn’t like that. So he reported it. Quora is so damn overly-automated with piss-poor tech that they just automatically “deleted” my comment. The only comment that might violate some Quora policy is when I said I’d let him use my referral code. Because comments are in a hierarchy when they deleted that comment they deleted my comment that I spent 2 damn hours writing. So I’m a no one on Quora. I am only a top-10 writer in a bunch of topics and for that, all I get is some dumb automated bot deleting my comments because some Tesla-hater got shown up. Way to go Quora! What angers me about Quora is it could be so good but it’s only good despite the tech and leadership behind Quora not because of the tech and leadership behind Quora. Since you’ve read through my latest grievance with Quora now I’ll share that advice I promised: Anything you write on Quora whether it be an Answer <OR> Comment always copy and paste your content to another app in case Quora deletes it. I use OneNote but in this case I failed to backup my content. Deletion of my content has happened now on Quora numerous times. I also wrote an Answer about what Tesla’s Raven Update is all about. My Answer included a bunch of little-known facts. Some people on Reddit liked it, I put the hyperlink to the Answer on Reddit. Then a week later, I get a Quora Moderation (QM) message that it violates a policy. I read it, see zero wrong with it, appeal, AND I lose the appeal. The useful content I spent 2 hours writing, is just deleted. Quora doesn’t respect its writers, they will delete their content or I should say their highly suspect “tech” will delete Answers and Comments all the damn time. To add insult to injury, none of us are paid a damn cent for writing the content! Quora has a “Block” feature that is ABUSED-ABUSED-ABUSED. They have to know this by now. There is a guy named ,Jared Fox, in the Tesla and EV related topics. He has written over 800 mostly false, hateful, and devoid of facts “Answers” about Tesla and Elon Musk. He’s been reported a zillion damn times yet his false content remains alive on Quora. Quora is in essence endorsing slander and libel and even worse they have it rigged so it can’t be stopped by crowdsourced debate. What I mean by that is Jared’s tactic is once you disagree with him via a “Comment” to his answer, then he uses the Quora “Block” feature, now you can no longer debate bat-shit crazy Answers of his. I’ve reported this to Quora, no action has been taken whatsoever. Find other platforms that appreciate your content. This is what I’m doing now, maybe I’ll go to Medium. But right now what I write is more applicable for a Q&A type format and I know of no other one that is a decent replacement for Quora. OK, so what is the point of this outburst of mine? My point is Quora has become a platform for many extremist views and these views go unchecked because Quora literally blocks debate. The topics I participate in are fairly tame but you’ll see other topics where people freely air their bat-shit crazy beliefs: The holocaust never happened. North Korea has a vibrant economy. <Insert Communist Country Name here> has never violated human rights. Tesla is the worst car ever, worst selling, etc. Elon Musk has never accomplished anything, etc. My area of participation has been in 4 and 5 but in the grand scheme of things, they don’t mean shit compared with 1–3. 4 and 5 are really all about character assassination of Elon Musk (slander) and lies about Tesla (libel). As a Tesla owner and a follower of Elon Musk, these sorts of Answer bother me and I know enough about them to respond, so I do. I’ve dabbled in 1–3 here and there but I’m only one guy and really I’m not in charge of how Quora operates. They have to police their own system.
