Review Q&A bmw m4 clubsport

Should I add a spoiler to my car?

Yeah, let's get all that down-force. Do you really need it or is it just for the looks, like this ebay mini spoiler? If you own a first generation Audi TT (model 8N) without a spoiler, like the one bellow, then you should add it. At high speeds, the car starts to lose traction on the rear wheels, which has caused a lot of accidents. Audi fixed this by installing small spoilers and offered retrofitting spoilers for early models. It didn’t look that good, but it saved lives. BONUS: Installing a spoiler just for the looks Now a small disclaimer, this is my opinion and tastes are different so feel free to disagree. I personally only like the design changes that when you first see it, you immediately think “this could be stock”, nothing excessive. With that in mind let me continue. If you own a normal ,VW Golf,, put a GTI spoiler on it. If you already have a GTI then put a GTI Clubsport spoiler on it, and so on. If you own a ,BMW 430d,, get that sweet M4 carbon lip. If you have a ,Toyota Supra, MK4, don't touch anything you're just going to decrease its value. Thanks for reading the whole post☺

What type of racing can I watch that uses highly modified street cars similar to TC2000? I want to see everyday cars driven at a professional level while highly modified. What are my options?

For someone looking to watch racing of highly modified street cars, similar to the TC 2000 series, it’s honestly a huge field of options. While GT3 series all over the world may look somewhat like a modified street car, they’re typically not sharing many parts with their road-going versions. There are exceptions, but for the most part, not many of the parts are the same. If you look to GT4 however, you’ll find a lot of cars where they started with the same car you’d find in the showroom, then added special bits for racing. The Porsche Cayman GT4 MR Clubsport is a good example. BMW’s M4 GT4 is another good example. But there are also cars in the class like the SIN R1 GT4 which started life as a race car, then they built the street version after. Cars in the GT4 class are raced in IMSA’s GS class. IMSA racing is broadcast worldwide. But I suspect you’re looking at something more in the Touring Car class. For that, at least in the US (with worldwide broadcast options), you have SRO America, formerly known as Pirelli World Challenge, as well as IMSA’s TCR class which runs at the same time as the GS class. In SRO America, there’s a large Touring Car group with three different classes - TCA, TC, and TCR. TCR is a popular class with very powerful front-wheel drive cars, heavily modified, and nearly as fast as the GT4 class. They’re required to be factory built. You can’t go buy a VW Golf at the dealership and add parts to make it the same as the Golf TCR. You have to buy the car from the factory racing program as a TCR spec car. TC is a slight step under TCR in speed, but allows cars like the BMW M240iR which are factory built, and the Nissan 370Z which can be built from a street car. There are others, but these are two popular ones. Finally, TCA gives you possibly what you’re looking for. These are all cars that were on a dealership showroom floor at one point, then were modified with roll cages, racing suspensions, and so on. A client of mine actually went and bought a used Subaru BRZ, drove it straight to the race shop, and in just a few months he was driving it in the TCA class. While little is done to increase the power, the suspension and brakes are upgraded to racing specifications along with racing tires ultimately turning the cars into really fast racing machines. It’s truly impressive what can be done with these cars to make them incredibly fast. To give you an idea of how fast the TCA cars are, at a track like Circuit of the Americas (CotA), a fairly competent driver in a BMW M2 can make a lap at around 2:40. A professional racing driver like myself can do it in about 2:35. A stock Subaru BRZ will make a lap in about 2:50. That same BRZ built to the TCA specification will be as fast as the M2, although in a completely different way. It’ll be faster in the corners, as well as under heavy braking. The BMW will easily out-accelerate it on every straight, but the braking and cornering of the TCA car will allow it to catch up and even pass the M2 in some places. Moving up to the TCR class to show a comparison, a typical TCR car at CotA will be able to lap at about 2:20. To get a street car that fast, you’re looking at a slightly modified Corvette, Nissan GT-R, or Porsche GT3. Those cars in stock trim will struggle to catch the TCR, but adding racing tires will help their cause. They’ll still likely be a few seconds short of the mark, and while they might catch the TCR car off the line at the start, they’d quickly be overtaken and beaten to the end of the lap. I hope this gives you some perspective and answers your question.

Why are Lotuses so rare?

You said 3 words that are highly subjective - Cheap, Handling and Performance. All of these 3 words combine can point to other makes and models that provide close to, if not better control, confidence, speed. Like Civic / Integra Type Rs, Clio / Megane Sports RS / Evolution MR / STi ClubSport just for comparisons sake. The skills required to exact the same level of driving performance from a midship car is also alot more technical vs a front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive car. It is also not entirely fair to compare a Boxster vs an Elise or an Exige. Brand prestige (whether anyone wants to admit or not), comfort, application and practicality all weigh towards a purchase. The target audience is also entirely different even though they all can be simply classified as sports cars in most automotive markets. The rarity of Lotuses come down to 3 important factors; - The buyer has already made up his/her mind on what they want specifically. They are not out there to prove a point and they buy it for the surgically precise handling and overall balance coupled with performance. The satisfaction from driving a well maintained Lotus is breathless and very driver rewarding, want to up the game? You will need to look towards exoskeletons like Ariel Atom, KTM X-Bow, BAC Mono, Lotus 2-11/3-11. - The buyer has loyalty towards the brand heritage, is inherently aware and ready to put up with the build quality, (endless buzzing and squeaks from some part of the car, water leaks from rain or carwashes, substandard selection of parts from all different major parts suppliers, extremely spartan interior) Reliability moving to Toyota engines has seen Lotuses being completed reliable vs the earlier days in comparison. Still by far, not earth shattering compared with other marques. - The buyer has the disposable income and lifestyle to maintain the motoring passion and enthusiasm. Sure, weekend cars are not uncommon in Western societies especially countries like US, Europe, Australia, New Zealand. But it's one thing to own a track ready sports car vs a touring style sports coupe or convertible. Application and purpose is high subjective on what a weekend car should be or used for. I once owned an Exige Cup in my late 20s specifically to be used as my daily off-peak commute to the office and home. Some would argue that I have gone mad while others envy my weapon of choice. Since I was rarely caught in traffic congestion, why not make the most out of my drive to work everyday? My criteria were so specific, in the end it was either going to be a Lotus or nothing. - It had to be unique make, but not a commonly known brand. That striked out Porsche, BMW M, Mercedes-AMG and Audi RS almost immediately. Ferrari and Lamborghini were out of the question, they were loud and far from being unique unless you owned a Speciale or SuperVeloce. - It had to look jaw dropping, traffic stopping and had the performance credentials to back it up. There is not another make or model that was as low to the ground (total height and size of vehicle), had more scoops, wing, cutouts and aerodynamics, accelerated like a bat out of hell and corner on rails for the price bracket. - It had to be reasonably economical to operate, maintain and insure. Compare a GT3/RS, M3 CSL/M4 GTS, C63 507/Black Series, RS4/6 Plus. You should consider owning shares in a petroleum conglomerate since you will start filling up very often, wear and tear consumables are also extravagantly priced whilst insurance underwriters will look very closely at crafting a policy for excessive usage. With that, I had 8 years of joyful ownership of my Exige Cup. It ticked all the right boxes, sure it was a memory task to reverse park, it could not always get into every carpark garage and when it rained, it also poured inside. But when the weather was fine and the roads were clear, there was nothing stopping it from putting a smile on my face every time I drove it. Even up to the last moments before I handed it over to the new owner, I was still getting happy snaps and thumbs up from other motorists or their kids. This was the intangible joy of my Lotus ownership and the rarity and exclusivity that came with it.
