Change all the three filters…oil fuel and air…new air intake if it is a naturally aspirated…a new filter new intake…. New engine mounts…. You should probably do some work on chassis though it might not be necessary if the engine you are intending to replace is also a peugeot…a new gear box may or may not be required…new exhaust system and a catalyzing converter.. If you intend to keep the same ecu….. Revamp the engine mapping…..
The ECU has probably failed. This is common on the 207. Are the dash lights coming on without a check engine warning? The fuel pump not working will also stop it from firing up, and might be a fuse problem. Also the fuel may have gone sticky in the injectors, and these will have to be replaced or cleaned. You might have to get a flat bed to take it to a Peugeot dealer and fork out the cash to have their techs assess it.
Peugeot electrics are very robust unless tempered with, or experience water damage. You haven’t been specific on specifically what ECU faults you are facing, but if they are myriad, the maybe it could be a loose or rusty earthing connection somewhere. Check all the earthing including for the ECU and bsi/bsm units, ‘but if they are fine, and still there is an error, you may need to check harnesses & connections, these if interfered with do cause problems even shorting the ECU or any other unit dead or into problems. Replacement of harnesses and units, or the complete set of ECU, bsm, bsi, transponder and key set from an exact model can also sort you if the harnesses are fine.
Firstly, it needs to have a diesel engine pre 1997 with mechanical injection (rotary pump and mechanical injectors) and no electronic engine management (ECU). Secondly, if the vehicle does not already have a fuel pre-heater, then you will need to fit one. Thirdly, if you do not plan to create biodiesel (TME) from the cooking oil but use it raw, you will need to replace any seals in the fuel lines with Vitron food-grade seals rather than rubber ones. If you tick all those boxes, you are good to go. Run it on 95% oil and 5% conventional diesel in summer and a 60% oil and 40% diesel mix in winter. I have driven several vehicles fuelled on cooking oil. A series of 1990–1992 Peugeot 309 GRD vehicles and a couple of Vauxhall Astra 1.7TD vehicles.
I'm not sure but it may be the anti-pollution system's fault... Even if it doesn't anything to do with "Computer Programming", I'll try to answer as the computer programmer i am. Having nearly no knowledge about cars, I'd treat that error as an ERROR line I've found in some application's log file. The power cap is obviously caused by that "anti-pollution system", maybe the car's way to prevent more damage is done to its engine. The error itself is caused by something else, so in order to find that I'd try to find some specific ERROR CODE in the error message. The scan tools at the car dealer may help too. With more specific details about what's wrong, I'd just use that awesome and powerful tool shown ,here, to find what do I need to get checked/repaired/replaced. And according to the first few links, it is caused by some O2 sensors in the exhaust system. Depending on the error code, it may be anything from a dead sensor, a wiring fault, an emission leak to an internal ECU fault.
As ECU usually means ‘Engine Control Unit’ you would normally just have one. If you take ECU to mean ‘Electronic Control Unit’ then it makes sense to have different controllers for different functions. My last Peugeot had two fancy electronic modules. One was designated ECU (Engine Control Unit) and the other was referred to as a BSI (Built-in Systems Interface). This had the job of working all the lighting, electric windows, ABS and climate control as well as the alarm and central locking. Different specifications of the same model would have different equipment fitted although the engines would be the same. My model had a 1.4 petrol option, a 1.6 diesel or a 1.9 turbo diesel. Three different engines each with a slightly different ECU. Now as for trim, some variants had electric front windows (mine had manual winding handles). Mine had no AC (who needs it in Northern Europe?!) but some versions did. The BSI was common to all variants (and used on many different models of both Citroen and Peugeot) and it was simply a case of ‘fitted for but not with’ and various parameters enabled or disabled in software. For functions which relied on communication between modules, the two modules were linked using CANBus. So, my 1.4 petrol manual window variant had remote central locking. If I used the keyfob to lock the car it would lock the doors and arm the alarm and immobiliser. Had my car also had power windows, the BSI would also wind up the windows automatically had I left them open. The ECU doesn’t give two hoots whether I have power windows or not. It just cares that it is the ECU for a 1.4 petrol or, say, a 1.9 diesel. Different sensors, different engine parameters and different optimal operating conditions. I have seen vehicles with more than ten separate electronics modules. I have seen separate modules just to control electrically operated seats that can ‘remember’ a choice of position, tilt, lumbar adjustment and height for up to four different drivers. Select your preset and the seat moves to the correct position, adjusts the mirrors to your liking and even sets the seat heater to the particular preference for a particular driver’s posterior! Now if you have anything (other than the top of the range model) which doesn’t have the electric seating option, don’t fit the seating control module. Simples. Go back to the dealer a year later and say “Hey, I would really like to have my regular seats upgraded to electric”, they can simply add the module in without having to change any wiring looms or modify any existing electronics. That spare blanking plate on the dash is replaced with the seat control switch, that gets wired into the dashboard harness which then ‘talks’ to the seat control module via CANBus. Modular is almost always cheaper when you don’t need the additional functions.
