When the sensor fails, this will cause the check engine light symbol to light up.

Turns out my crankshaft sensor is failing! This bitch!!!! https://t.co/7pik7mMogv
We were here for a major service, replacement of fuel pump, replacement of crankshaft position sensor. Remember we are mobile experts technicians with great customer care and professional services rendered based in joburg fourways. https://t.co/CnC9Y2pz8O

This device am holding is called "CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR or CKS Sensor but popularly known as "STARTING SENSOR". The crankshaft position sensor measures the rotation speed (RPMs) and the precise position of the engine crankshaft. #automobile #engineers #car #mechanic https://t.co/wbWdwaI7am

So I hopped in my spare car to go fetch a Crankshaft sensor and my dog demanded she ride with me https://t.co/jyII0l1CQG
So this crankshaft sensor show me pepper yesterday night, how did i solve it?, removed it and directed a wire from it to get a spark from the car coil, den heart it to the car body, Risky cos it could lead to car catching fire, was super careful not to overheat d car engine. https://t.co/gA39zqyLxt
Took a detour to Eureka today to have the crankshaft position sensor replaced. Shot a couple of snaps https://t.co/3HoNp43HdY

On most cars you try to coast over to the side of the road carefully. The steering and brakes will be harder than normal but they will still work. Once safely parked please remember to put the transmission in park and turn on your emergency flashers. Then get out your phone and call a tow truck to take your car to a repair shop. They will diagnose the problem and get you back on the road.
Yes especially in newer computer controlled transmissions. The crank sensor does a few things and one of those is monitor crank speed variations. If it decides the variation is too great it can set a cell for misfires and put the trans in limp mode to prevent further damage to other components by restricting the use, speed and engine load.
Yes. It can cause Transmission problems, if Automatic Transmission’s Electronic Power Train Control Module is multiplexed with Electronic Engine Control Module through CAN (Controller Area Network). In Electronically Managed Engines, both Crankshaft Sensor & Camshaft Sensor both should work properly to start an Engine. During engine running even if one of them malfunctions, the engine will continue to run with an Error Code registered. The Crankshaft Sensor also doubles up as a Engine Tacho and shares its Data with the Transmission Output Shaft Speed Sensor to effect a Torque Converter Lock-Up. Multiplexing is the process by which various Electronic Controllers are connected in CAN share common Sensor Data to synergize the operation of the vehicle.
The excessive build-up of heat in the engine can lead to ,crankshaft sensor damage, by melting the plastic covering. Circuitry Problems. Faulty voltage or loose, worn-out, or ,damaged, wiring can disrupt the signals sent to and from the ,crankshaft sensor,, ,causing, it to have issues.
Just bolt it on all are made to fit and operate as they are with no adjustment needed as the parts are made accurately the same as the crankshaft and block that it bolts to. If the crankshaft is twisted or the block damaged that is a separate issue.
I think the crank sensor just puts out a pulse every revolution. Not actually a code. If it fails, the computer will report it with a code.
You only change it if it breaks. It won’t normally wear out like an oil filter or brake pads would. Many cars go to the junkyard and the end of their lives with their original camshaft and crankshaft sensors installed.
Bi-directional means it can can tell direction of rotation as well. I believe this is called quadrature encoding, which is also used on hobby type robotic vehicles to tell whether the drive wheel is going forward or back. Normal quadrature encoders use 2 sensors and 2 target wheels a known number of degrees apart. The automotive type has 3 hall type detectors inside it, but uses a normal toothed target wheel. Perhaps this bi-directional type automotive sensor has logic that senses which of the three hall sensors gets the first magnetic indication of a tooth passing so that the sensor can tell the leading edge of the tooth from the trailing edge of the tooth and thus can encode the direction. A normal (one hall sensor type) crankshaft sensor assumes the crank is turning in one direction only, therefore all it has to do is count teeth from a known index point to determine the crankshaft position. http://www.bosch-motorsport.de/content/downloads/Products/resources/14876421771/en/pdf/Hall-Effect_Speed_Sensor_HA-Di_Datasheet_51_en_14377030667.pdf
Yes it is for most cars and it monitors the position of the cranking with a missing tooth on the flywheel. From the position, the timing for the fuel injection and spark timing (if petrol engine) is determined my the ECU and hence from this information the ECU starts the engine. However the previous models also used camshaft sensors with the crank sensor to determine the position and timing.
No..not directly but the ecm needs to know that the engine is running in order to give power to the pump to run..and when the engine shuts off it shuts off the pump..but not sure what sensors it reads..what is wrong with the pump
