Review Q&A immobiliser antenna coil

Is there any modern car being manufactured that is mostly analog, without all of the sensors and electronics, that could survive an EMP attack?

Nope. If the EMP is strong enough, older cars will also not stand a chance. Anything made from a metal that resembles a loop will act as an antenna, absorbing the EMP attack. The more loops it makes, the higher the voltage induced. The worse it’s grounded, the worse it gets. So anything with a solenoid in it will be turned into a high voltage source detroying everything; the relays, the ignition coil, but also the window borders and the car’s body itself. My guess would be that the ignition coil is the first part to go(potentially taking many others with it), rendering the car unusable for as long as that’s not fixed. Older cars that don’t use fragile semiconductor technology won’t be immobilised as quickly, but they aren’t invulnerable to an EMP. Just like hitting the water with it vs newer cars. One important difference is that newer cars are almost unfixable after this, while older cars are not. You just need a few new parts. If you build a car to protect it against EMP’s, there won’t be much difference. Just minimise all parts that could act as an antenna, and fully ground them. With military vehicles, you’ll see all window borders, bonnet etc. grounded to the body by straps. Sometimes that’s even easily visible from the outside. This is to maximise EMC, minimising it’s vulnerability to an EMP.
