Only 6 288 GTO Evoluzione’s were ever built. One was sacrificed as a test mule for the development of the Ferrari F40, and one is a part of Ferrari’s permanent collection, so only 4 are available to the world for personal ownership. Seems one of the remaining 4 is for sale here. No price listed, of course, because if you have to ask…. Ferrari 288 GTO Evoluzione I did some digging, seems they have had it on the market since 2013. This means that to whoever is selling it, it is very dear. There is no record of the sale price for any of these vehicles. None have ever been sold at auction, and nobody has ever disclosed their price from a private sale, so lets do a little sleuthing. The regular 288 GTO which it was based on has 277 built, and they are worth roughly $2,100,000 each. The rarest Ferrari we have a sale price on is the original 250 GTO, of which 36 total were built. The most expensive recorded price for one is $48,400,000. There are 5, FIVE, 288 GTO Evoluzione’s in the world, only 4 of which are available to the public. It’s worth whatever the richest car person in the world is willing to pay for it. But just for fun, lets try to guess its value using some maths. 288 GTO Evo: Built = 5 -- Value = TBD 288 GTO: Built = 277 -- Value = $2,100,000 250 GTO: Built = 36 — Value = $48,400,000 The 250 GTO is 7.69444 times more rare than the 288 GTO. The 250 GTO is 23.058 times more valuable than the 288 GTO. Each whole multiple of rarity equals 2.995 times more value. The 288 GTO Evo is 7.2 times more rare than the 250 GTO, which means that it should be 21.564 times more valuable than the 250 GTO. If the rarity of the 288 GTO Evo makes it 21.564 times more valuable than the 250 GTO, then that would make it worth $1,034,697,600. Just over a BILLION dollars! Nobody is gonna pay a billion dollars for a car though, maybe now we know why it’s been for sale for 7 years. Even at a quarter of that price, a far more reasonable $250,000,000, it would take finding a very wealthy buyer, with very particular taste to ever sell it for anything close to this perceived value. Of course this isn’t a peer reviewed study, it took me no more than 20 or 30 minutes to write the entire article. In the end, a lot of it comes down to speculation and conjecture. After doing this exercise, my gut tells me that if/when this car ever sells, it will likely cost about $100,000,000 to $150,000,000, and the buyer will be getting a bargain.
Q: What is the price of a Ferrari 288 GTO? Normally in $60,000-$80,000 USD range. Source: ,https://www.hemmings.com/stories/article/1984-85-ferrari-288-gto According to Sackey, however, the average 288 GTO price is far higher. "These cars don't have a price tag like a loaf of bread at the grocery store, Sackey said. "For a good, low-mileage example, you're talking $800,000. I have sold some in the $600,000 range that are drivers, and there is one that is worth in the $1 million range. It is like new." Sackey maintains a registry of these cars so that each of their histories is documented. People who own or aspire to own these cars also tend to be tuned into the stories of each 288 GTO, he said. "We maintain a registry on all 279 cars built, and we know them individually, like children," Sackey said. "There are a few specialists around the world, and we compare notes so that we have a handle on the lives of them. Buyers of these cars represent a small group of connoisseurs. These guys all pay cash, and if they sell these cars it's because they're bored or they want to buy a better one. In the market today, any specialty market, there are people paying premiums for the best example."
The boost pressure is measured at the intake ports. Multi turbo systems may combine the turbo outputs in parallel or not, but in all cases the pressure in all ports should be the same and that figure should be given as the boost pressure. There are systems that combine turbos in series, meaning one turbo feeds another and that one feeds the engine. Only the intake boost pressure should be stated as the boost.
This question is really tough. Ideally I would take all the three! Compelled to make a choice I would take Ferrari 288 GTO. Why? Lancia 037 makes sense in a collection where a lucky man can keep Lancia Fulvia HF, Stratos and Delta S4 all together.
Ferrari Testarossa (F110)(1984–1996) (from the price trend this car is already going crazy) 2. BMW M3 (E30) 3. BMW M5 (E28) 3. ferrari 288 GTO 4. DMC DeLorean 5. Lamborghini Countach 6. Mazda RX-7 7. Mercedes Benz 600 (car of the leaders/executives) (already a classic)
“What, in your personal opinion, is the most beautiful car ever to go into production, limited or otherwise?” There are lots of GREAT answers here and since it is all subjective, I will throw in my $0.02. I am simply in love with the 1984 Ferrari 288 GTO. I find the proportions perfect, the power plant simply incredible. The fenders masculine and feminine at the same time. Every angle, scoop, intake and exhaust perfect to my eye. When it comes to cars, it is my hearts desire. -Doug
Luxury cars are only fast by chance. Everything about them were supposed to be better than the rest of the car world. The displacements and general power of these vehicles created speed which just put some them ahead of their time. This just became a trait of them. (Jaguar XJ-120 if I’m not mistaken) (Cadillac V-16) Super cars, on the other hand were originally made to be the top of the top in performance. Speed was also natural, wanted, worked for and was considered a great achievement in Europe(sooner or later the Americas). More companies joined the super car bandwagon as time went on. Competition increased and everyone became more competitive, cars becoming more complex. These are just a few cars that show an example of the evolution and competition of super-cars: (From 1986-1993)Porsche 959,(later it’s nephew the 959 Turbo): fastest super and sports car. Was considered super car of the 1980’s. 959 top speed: 197, which is NASCAR speed in 2008-ish. 959 Turbo top speed: 201 mph(many super-cars are yet reaching this today, not including it’s performance) FLAT SIX, Twin-Turbo Ferrari 288 GTO,(not really super, but has opened doorways for a lot of super cars today). Top speed: 189 mph. Ferrari 288 GTO laptimes, specs, performance data - FastestLaps.com Ferrari 512 Berlinetta Boxer(I guess you could call this a super muscle car) I have to stop here because we have to move on. Hyper cars are basically just super, super cars. What can I say, they’re just more complex super cars. You already know; they have more horsepower, maneuverability, speed and are designed to take car performance to it’s max or at least near it. Pagani Hypercar (Koenigsegg Agera R) And just so you guys know when you go online, every car that’s foreign muscle, super or hyper is considered ‘Sports’ for some stupid reason, so here’s a hint; for now, almost any high performance car that has a very flaky, sharp or bubbly body, a lot of down-force and a flat undercarriage is most likely a manual and can outperform(not out-run, there’s a difference) a 1965 Shelby Cobra(173 mph) is probably a super car. Comment below if you want me to add more facts. I was being quite brief.
