ABSOLUTELY. Are you talking “undercoating” or “rustproofing?” I will never buy another car without having it rustproofed before it leaves the dealer’s lot. I bought a 1993 Escort (new) and had it rustproofed. I had it almost 9 years with no rust problem. I bought a 2001 Mercury Sable and the dealer “convinced” me that it didn’t need to be rustproofed. It started rusting within 2-1/2 years. (I live in Niagara Falls, which is the road salt capital of the country). My 2012 Fusion was rustproofed before it left the lot. No problems.
How often should you undercoat or rustproof your vehicle?
It's usually done at the factory. If you apply more make sure of 2 things. Clean the underbody thoroughly to remove any road salt residue or undercoating will trap it, and cause faster rusting.
