What are some weird or funny slang terms from Israel?

One I find weird. There is an expression: חבל על הזמן (haval al hazman); literally means “a waste of time”. A few years ago it started to be used to mean that something is wonderful (a movie, a restaurant,…). However, it is also used in the original sense.

Do Chinese automobile industry have presence anywhere in world?

China Automotive Industry In 2010, China became the biggest automobile market by sales in the world, and it has not stopped growing since. What may be even more astonishing is that it is, still in many aspects, a market in its infancy with huge growth potential. This is the reason we still witness new international entrants in the market; the latest one being ,Renault,, as the leading French manufacturer, opening its first China factory this February 2016. Additionally, a myriad of indigenous, newly created, revived– you name it – brands have been drawn to this increasingly stratified market. Today, China is home to more than 70 auto brands, the majority of which are native — compare this to roughly 20-30 brands competing in most other markets. These new players and brands may one day expand outside of China, as they come with ambitions that have no national limits. Some are designed to be global players and several of these brands are already produced in various parts of the world outside of China. A sophistication of brand systems The numbers are impressive, but we can also observe a sophistication of brand systems that is bound to lead the trajectory as brands mature to a unique situation – one in which many intertwined equities have to coexist as many brands are attached to one manufacturer. As the market is building and many of the brands are immature, this complexity is not yet affecting their development in an obvious way. Many still float in a blue ocean unhindered by intricate supplier relationships. A few years back, well-known foreign manufacturers (American, European, and Japanese) were strongly incentivized to create totally new joint-venture brands positioned in a more budget segment than their original brand. These new indigenous brands were oftentimes built in collaboration with Chinese manufacturers. ,Baojun,, a joint venture brand between ,General Motors, and two local manufacturers ,SAIC, and ,Wuling,, is a good example. Note that GM brands are also made in JV factories. Secondly, there are newly created brands like ,Qoros,, created in 2007 by ,Chery ,and, Israel Corporation,, and ,Luxgen,, created in 2009 and headquarted in Taiwan but produced and sold in China. Thirdly, there are unique models of international brands made for specific market segments within China. ,Lamando,, for example, is a new model created for the Chinese market by ,Volkswagen, to compete in the upper A segment car market. And lastly, some Chinese brands have been drawn to create their own brand architecture sophistications to support their success. One such example is,Great Wall,. Famous for its poor crash test rating, it is nonetheless a rising star within the Chinese automotive industry with a promising sub-brand ,HAVAL,, which specializes in the SUV range. HAVAL is having surprising traction; its logo has received a splash of color and in 2013 it replaced the Great Wall logo – a symbol of the purchase-driving effect it has had on Great Wall cars. Chinese ambitions FAW (First Automotive Works),, headquartered in Changchun in North East China, is one of the major car manufacturers in China. FAW has several brands, such as ,Besturn,, ,Xiali,, and ,Hongqi,, and is one JV partner that produces cars for ,Audi,, ,Volkswagen,, ,Toyota,, and ,General Motors ,in China. Hongqi, (meaning Red Flag) is famous in China as it is the car brand once reserved for the Chairman. While the pronunciation may be challenging for a non-Chinese speaker, our ear may get used to it as this brand has the ambition to become a leading luxury auto brand on par with global players like, Mercedes, and ,BMW,. There is a long way to go, but it is fascinating that such a program is set! Another example of Chinese ambitions is ,BYD, (standing for Build Your Dreams). BYD has been pioneering electric cars (hybrid plug-in models, mainly) in China and has released its first electric cars in late 2000. It has Warren Buffet as a famous stakeholder. Last year in 2015, BYD launched two high performing models Qin and Tang – interestingly named after Chinese dynasties and displaying only their Chinese names on the cars. Qin and Tang were so popular that the sales of BYD were the highest in the category worldwide, and their success contributed to making China the fastest growing market for electric cars. This evolution seems to be sure to culminate in a car developed by the internet giants, perhaps following down the path carved by Google. But it may take a different direction in China: not necessarily an automated, driverless car, but instead it may likely be a car with enhanced digitalization and entertainment. Regarding this dimension, operating systems for future cars are a central focus with several companies competing to take the lead. Full electric cars in the luxury segments are being announced. Building equity in emerging markets Chinese brands are making their presence felt in places like Eastern Europe, Africa, South America, and the Middle East. JAC, Lifan, Geely, Cherry, BYD, Jinhua and Great Wall motors are all opening assembly lines in these places, putting new models specifically designed for the destination market on the roads, and creating awareness for their brands. During a recent visit at the end of 2015 to Ethiopia, I witnessed the growing presence of brands in this market such as BYD or Lifan – a local Chinese brand originated from Chongqing. In order to develop, brands like Lifan principally rely on social media branding, which allows them to be heard across the world. While citizens in other countries were purchasing private car brands as early as 1910 (Ford’s Model T in America is a prime example), personal cars did not catch on in China until the 1990s. In less than 30 years, local inspiration and innovation has poured into the industry to create over 6,000 automobile enterprises. Car brands now fight and maneuver for market share unlike anywhere else in the world. There is a major reshuffling of cards going on and even if foreign brands seems to have the best hand with advantages in technology and branding experience, the game remains to be played, and the ultimate winners to be named. We can already anticipate that current trends in China are at the forefront of the global car industry evolution, and that looking at the dynamics of the Chinese market will inform what’s in store for the evolution of car markets – both in emerging countries and ultimately in western economies. These trends include: new brands, new brand architectures, new models, adoption of new types of cars (e.g. hybrid), new electric car innovations with unique premium positioning, new operating systems for cars, and new brand experiences. To illustrate this last point and to conclude this article, let’s look at ,DS, brand from PSA group. This brand has developed most of its brand innovations in China, including the development of its showrooms and nuanced refinements such as the brand olfactive identity that is diffused in its stores. The brand grew more freely and dynamically in China, creating a new brand experience, while in Europe it has to win its independence from Citroen. Let’s be attentive to the evolution of Chinese automotive branding as it tends to become a laboratory for global innovation.

Politics: Who are the greatest politicians in different countries around the world over the last 50 years? Why?

Already Ten amazing answers about some really awesome Leaders. I fully agree with the interpretation of ,Marc-Bodnick , of the term " The Greatest Politician" and try to abide by that.Within that I will also go for variety, and also for some lesser known Leaders too. 1.Barack Obama (US of A):, Election of this refreshingly youthful African - American to the arguably top post of the world, changed the image the American polity had lately acquired, particularly under the George Bush era,and fired the imagination of the entire world. The fact that he went on to win the Second term speaks volumes about his personality and performance, and the Nobel peace prize was just an icing on the cake. 2.Mikhail Gorbachev (Soviet Russia):, Initially I thought of mentioning Putin to balance Obama, but I think the role played by Mikhail Gorbachev as the General secretary of the monolithic Soviet Communist Party and the President of the then USSR, is much greater, and also unique.First he freed the Soviet people from the decades long tyranny of the Stalinist Communist Party rule with his slogans of Glasnost (Transparency) and Perestroika(Reconstruction) which in turn paved the way for dismantling of the artificially bound together Soviet Republics into several natural Nation-States, and also led to the down fall of many of the propped up puppet dictatorships in the Eastern Bloc countries like Poland,Hungary,Czhecoslovakia, Romania,Yugoslavia, and East Germany. This in turn led to the end of the Cold War between the superpowers, and a great scaling down of the arms race.Though Gorbachev won international recognition as a far sighted statesman, and awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace, he progressively got marginalized from the affairs of Russia and gradually withdrew from that country's politics. 3.Nelson Mandela(RSA): ,Mandela started his political career as an African Nationalist and Anti-apartheid activist, and galvanized his people in their struggle against racist rule, and led them to become the First President of the multi racial Republic of South Africa, despite spending 27 years of his most productive years in prison. Fondly considered the Father of the Nation by his people, he also won Nobel Prize for peace, and also Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award of India. 4.Yasser Arafat(PNA) :, This Terrorist turned Statesman had a role both in escalating the tensions in the Middle East, and later in finding at least a partial but peaceful solution for the ,conflict. As, Chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) and the head of the dreaded militant outfit Al Fatah, he fought the powerful Israel for the displaced people of Palestine, but later on sat across the table for finding a political solution. He successfully negotiated for the Self-Determination of his people, and became the first President of the Palestinian National Authority, when it was formed in 1994, and managed to remain in power for over one decade till his death under suspicious circumstances in 2004. Arafat is also a joint winner of Nobel Peace Prize. 5.Fidel Castro(Cuba) :,Castro, the Communist Revolutionary, who seized power in the Cuban Revolution, overthrowing the Batistuta military rule in 1959, has managed to retain undisputed power for over 5 decades, and still keep going, though by proxy. Even after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the mellowing of China,he continues to remain the proverbial bee in the America's bonnet till now. The alleged 638 attempts of US to liquidate him are stuff of legends. 6.Hugo Chavez(Venezuala):, Chavez, who became the elected President in his country first in 1998,continued , along with Castro of Cuba, the Marxist legacy in the region until the time of his death due to cancer in 2012.He was the chief architect of the resurgence of the Anti US sentiment and the emergence of Socialist regimes in the Latin American countries like Equador, Bolivia,Nicaragua and Chile. During his rule, he introduced ultra left economic agenda like land reforms, Nationalization of key industries, and very high taxation of Foreign oil companies. This won him both the adulation of his people, and also the criticism of his bitter rivals, and Chavez remained a colorful, though controversial figure till his death. 7.Vaclav Havel(Czech Republic):, This Poet, playwright,Human Rights activist and Politician, took on the brutal might of the Soviet during their invasion of Czhecoslovakia, and was an active and integral part of the famous" Prague Spring" movement of 1968.He was unanimously elected the President when Czhecoslovakia managed to overthrow the the Communist regime in the face of popular uprising. When the country separated in to Czech and Slovak Republics in 1993, Havel continued as President of the Czech Republic for another decade till 2003.Havel later headed many international Human Rights Missions, and died in 2011. 8.Lech Walesa(Poland) :, Walesa, with his walrus like moustache was to Poland, what Haval was to Czhecoslovakia. But, while Haval was a poet and playwright, Walesa was a labor and Trade Union Leader. Even during the heydays of Soviet dominance, Walesa co founded Solidarity, the first independent trade union of his country, and fought for the labor rights against the mighty Communist regime. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace as early as in 1983. When free democratic elections were held in Poland in 1990,Walesa became the First President of Poland, and remained in office till 1995.Though he lost in the subsequent election, and become some what less popular, even facing allegations of being an informer and collaborator to the Polish Secret Police in his earlier days,he manages to remain actively involved in Polish national and international affairs.Very recently he was the subject of a huge death hoax on Facebook, which rekindled popular interest in him. 9.Sheikh Mujibur Rahman( Bangladesh),: Pipe smoking Mujibur Rahman, popularly called Sheikh Mujib or Bangabandhu (Friend of Bengal) was the head of the people's movement in East Pakistan against the neglect and exploitation by the Politicians of the West Pakistan. Even though his Awami League won the majority in the 1970 general elections, he was thwarted from forming government in East Pakistan by the Military Rulers of the unified Pakistan, who even declared martial law to quell the mass up surge. Sheikh Mujib then called for Civil Disobedience, and also led a militant outfit, Mukti Bahini(Fighters for Freedom) engaging in a civil war against the Pakistani army stationed in the East Pakistan, called the Bangladesh War of Liberation, which he won with the active support of the Indian Government and army.He became the founding father of the fledgling Nation of Bangladesh as it came to be known in 1971,and was the First President, and later Prime Minister of the country, before his brutal assassination in a military coup in 1975. Even after his killing, his legacy continues, and his daughter Sheikh Hasina is the incumbent Prime Minister of Bangladesh. 10.P.V.Narasimha Rao (India) :, This polymoth among politicians, with his perpetual pout, was the Prime Minister of India during the crucial period of 1991. Even though he was brought back from semi retirement to lead the Congress parliamentary party in the aftermath of Rajiv Gandhi's assassination, more as a consensus candidate to neutralize the other aspirants, he became the first Prime Minister outside the Nehru-Gandhi family to last the full term of five years in the post. He was the architect, who helped the country climb out of the economic abyss it was in,by taking the bold and innovative step of opening up the Indian Economy, and along with his hand picked Economist-Finance minister, ManMohan Singh, set in motion the process of Privatization,Liberalization, and Globalization, which led to a paradigm shift in the lives of an entire generation of young Indians. Even though Rao was betrayed and sidelined in the wake of his electoral loss in 1996 by his own party, future historians of India will accord him a very special place in the pantheon of Indian politicians.

Why is car manufacturing industry in China generally not competitive internationally?

Consumers are always dull about the market. One day they woke up, Chinese companies get great success in the smartphone market, no sign. Is there really no sign ? ①Chinese car brand will kick the Japanese ass. Consumers knew nothing but Japanese companies felt it. Chinese cars challenge Japan's lead in Southeast Asia- Nikkei Asian Review We witness the largest auto industry group. The top 30 car companies have 11 Chinese companies. This is the sum of the United States, Japan, and South Korea. When I was young, I thought that China could not make excellent cars. A Chinese will not want to buy a domestic car. When I was in college, I thought so. Until I started working, using Didi (China's Uber) booking a taxi. I found a lot of car brands that have never heard of more than 20 kinds. Then I'm looking for news, do you know what Chinese entrepreneurs are doing? Occupy the rural area to encircle the city (农村包围城市) . This is Mao's military strategy. Like a smartphone, Chinese companies accumulate power in silence. And then seize the opportunity, suddenly broke out. From the beginning to occupy a huge low-end market, and then rapid technical iteration, step by step to occupy the high-end market. Recently, the Chinese news media satirize Chinese auto companies. I am ashamed of this, but these replicas look pretty good. Until I found that Japan has done the same thing. They look more crazy than Chinese companies. I know its positive meaning:Innovation begins with imitation. Extra scene ~~~:D ②China, as the world's largest auto market, is changing the global new energy automotive industry. In 2017, the number of Chinese car sales will reach 30 million. Daily sales of the number of cars close to 100 thousand. Because of oil depletion and air pollution, the Chinese government has adopted the most radical policy of new energy vehicles. 7 years ago, a lot of news let me believe the electric car is the wrong direction. Subsidies for new energy vehicles is a huge waste. And even some companies cheat government subsidies. Then slowly, the fact is changing. ,I found that Elon Musk's idea was consistent with the Chinese government. ③China's auto company is quietly entering the game Great Wall Motor Company' s Haval series: From 2013 Haval H6 for four years to become China's auto market SUV sales champion. Began to enter the international market. Haval H8 in movie The Expendables 3 Geely Holding Group acquired the London Taxi Company, launched the first hybrid model. BYD electric bus has been exported to the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Brazil, Israel, more than 50 countries. And build factories in the world, such as the United States, Argentina, France, Malaysia and so on. Finally, let me make a bold prediction: ,In 2025, China's car popular in the international market. In 2030, China replaced Japan's auto market position. Become synonymous with high quality. Other answers: Why do the Chinese copy other companies’ products rather than making something new? What are the technologies from China that lead the world?
