Many do not know that Perodua has a small office in Daihatsu’s R&D centre in Osaka. As part of their duty to produce global cars, they work together with Daihatsu. The new Ativa/Daihatsu Rocky/Toyota Raize is actually a product developed by Daihatsu and Perodua. Exporting talent! https://t.co/ztsm9CYNmH

Wow...True r not? New PERODUA model. https://t.co/WyflUQZssq
I felt proud of Malaysia when Dr M started Proton project, making our cars. Ya, made in Malaysia, that was quite an inspirational moment for a kid. I developed an unknown interest in cars after playing with Hotwheels matchbox cars. I continued to feel proud with Wira, even to the extend of thinking Perodua is not as good since they make small and less sexy cars. There were also moments when I considered about studying car designs so I could work in Proton. (Photo from Manoj Prasad ,Manoj Prasad,) This changed slowly after I learned more about cars and technologies. I went to the extend to get a proton myself, to use the product and not just listen to negative naysayers. Owning proton car just helps me to be closer to car service workshops, as they break down more than my bicycle. I works in consumer product and home appliances design, R&D and in manufacturing industries and have many friends who used to work in Proton and Perodua, I had long talks with a lot of them to understand what are the issues with National cars. For Proton, up until Gen2 model (no info on later models), the core components of the cars (engine, wiring, gearbox, chassis) were designed by foreign firms (Japanese, British, Koreans). Proton manage the manufacturing after it was handed over when designs and tooling were done. Quality issues are mostly contributed by using substandard suppliers assigned by bosses/politicians. Product specs were lowered to pass the products testings. It has nothing to do with engineers’ skills as I know and seen many talented and capable Malaysian engineers, from design to production. But whether there is a vision from the top and whether there are plaforms for the engineers to perform. Currently it is mainly for satisfying the top people’s pockets. Now I have more respect towards Perodua as they have better reliability. Even though their cars lacked characters. (Maybe except Kelisa?) I would be happy with massive projects supported by government if they would be driven by visionary leader that has a desire to make great cars. I don’t see that now, I’m not even sure if the successors would be into making great cars (if I would guess the successive leaders). For now I don’t support another proton. I hope Malaysia focus on making great products.
Mahathir is a very bad leader. Let me tell u why. He built klcc, putrajaya, cyberjaya, proton, never ending highways. All of this causes 100 of billions of ringgit. And it doesnt even generate revenue. There are places in Pahang , Kelantan, Sabah, Sarawak where they have to travel 2 hours to go to the hospitals. Some people in Sabah doesnt even have access to basic education because there were no school within their reachable area. In Sabah if u go to the kampung, u will see that the condition of the poor is so disgusting . Its comparable to the conditions in India. My lecturer went there and he said people were surrounding him begging for money just like in India. So point is, if he used those 20-30 billion gov have invested so far from putra and cyberjaya, he could've completely given full access to education and hospitals to the people in ths rural area by building roads and so on. This is the true sustainable development. What have we achieved from Putra and Cyberjaya. To these days those are dead cities. Next, wht build klcc which cost nearly 5 billion ringgit at that time when the gov could've built thousands if not hundreds of thousands of affordable housings. By building klcc what the gov did is just creating a bubble. The kl area is very unaffordable, and this largely is bcoz of klcc development stratergy. In the end those who live in this area is not Malaysian, most are foreign investors. Attracting more foreign buyer creates more bubble. And yet it is not those foreigners who will suffer a bubble, it is us. He spent too many money on building highwas. These money should've been used to buy trains or even build a subway. It couldve settled traffic jams in KL, Penang and JB once and for all. But not with him. He likes making us sandwich in traffic jams. Last but not least. The most stupidest decision he made is to build proton. Until now the gov had to use taxpayers money to save proton from bankruptcy. Perodua is not even doing anywhere good at all. In US a BMW would cause you 38,000 dollars, in Malaysia a Myvi caused rm 50 k. Lol. U know what happens as a result of this. Malaysia have one of the highest household debt in Asia pacific region. Simply said if perodua is sell at a more realistic level, which should not have exceeded 25k in any of their cars. Perodua wouldve long gone too. Let me not even begin with corruption. Before him Malaysia was not a corrupted country. During and after him, corruption is rampant. People of Malaysia are stupid. They say Mahathir is the greatest leader ever. Bcoz they are ignlrant and they lack logic. Simply said if today any european leaders said they want to build their own klcc, there would be such a massive demonstration that the idea would be totally dropped. But what does Malaysian does when we built all of this klcc to putrajaya. They said we r proud to be a Malaysian and hidup Tun. Lolol. There alone u could see how stupid, ignorant and lack of logic Malaysian people mentality have.
I am not a fan for car with low fuel efficient. What if I have won the jackpot for unlimited money…. and assume there is no differences in RHD/LHD and I live in some countryside that I need to drive for few hours for grocery shop (supermarket). Daily Driver: Toyota Corolla Hatchback (6MT). My favourite car at the moment. Big enough for me as a single guy. I wish Toyota Malaysia will bring this car to Malaysia or maybe a rebadge through Perodua. Dating Car: Lexus RX. This is my dream car since when I was 5 years old. RX used to share the nameplate of Toyota Harrier in LHD market. Owing a luxury car give you some extra score in dating and your future father-in-law will recognise your ability to feed his daughter. Fun car/Weekend car Volkswagen Golf R. Corolla is good for weekday, Golf R definitely full-fill my passion towards speed. It serves better with manual transmission. Off-road Working car Toyota Hilux. Toyota has a good reputation for extreme reliability in off-road. You can always find professional Hilux driver at mountainous road driving at 80 mph and carrying their fruits uphill and downhill. Besides that, Toyota Hilux is the best companion with a machine gun or AA for homeland defence purpose. Collection car Mercedes Benz C-class (W202) and E-class (W211). This is for my father, his working car. People Carrier Mercedes GLS-class and Toyota Alphard. Nation favourite car Perodua Myvi. This is the Malaysian favourite car. You always find a Myvi behind you when you are driving at 160km/h. Never mess your car with Perodua Myvi, it is powered by legendary undestructable Toyota 1.5L Dual-VVTi and come with4-speed automatic. World road trip Toyota Land Cruiser Prado/ Lexus GX. Simple, fuel efficient and reliable to drive around the globe.
