Review Q&A toyota pto

Can a car be used as a home generator?

Certain models of the Toyota Prius have an optional inverter that you can plug into the car’s battery pack and it will generate mains level power off of the car’s battery and power train. Other hybrid models may have similar options. Talk to your dealer. Some trucks have PTO setups with a generator that can run off the transmission. You are looking at custom built heavy trucks here, so it will get pricey fast.

If you were in the market for an off-road vehicle, which vehicles would you consider?

I am well-served by the following off-road vehicles: Polaris Ranger TM (10 months of 12, this is the go-to off-road vehicle for around our property, even with 2WD) Ski-Doo Touring snowmobile (the fall-back machine in deep snow) two 4WD diesel tractors, 17 and 21 hp (extremely maneuverable among trees, good towing, PTO accessories) 4WD Toyota Tacoma (outstanding offroad performance, decent towing) AWD Porsche Cayenne (outstanding highway performance and towing capacity, limited suspension flexibility for offroad) The one I’d love to test drive is a Suzuki Jimni. It’s about the size of a Ranger but with a real transmission, 4WD, and a heater. Its limited towing ability would be the only negative. The earlier Suzuki Samauri has earned a lot of respect from the owners of Jeeps and Toyotas.

Why does my son want a sports car so badly?

I drive a 2006 Ford Mustang GT convertible 5 speed. It’s my third Mustang. It goes vrrrooom vrrroom. It has get up and go. For ten years between my 1997 and my 2006 (bought in 2017), I drove a 2006 Toyota Sienna. I fit right in at the mini van conventions held by the scouts and the PTO. I could take my whole engineering team to lunch. It was a great people mover and could carry 2x4’s and sheets of plywood. I never worried about having Home Depot supplies delivered. But good grief! It was hard to park. It looked like everyone else’s car. The electronic transmission was a dog; no that’s unfair to the dog. Pulling out onto the highway taught me the value of prayer. As my father pointed our during my divorce proceedings (the other parent thought I needed to buy a new car but I did not have the money to do so), a Mustang is not a sports car. It is a standard passenger vehicle that just happens to have a sporty look. My other car is a 2010 Honda Civic. My 17 year old son gets to drive that. Last summer due to a vehicle accident I drove a Nissan Versa for 6 weeks. It was worse than the Sienna.

Have you ever been fired? How did you deal with it?

Yes, and it happened while I was on approved vacation. I had been doing security for a large corporate company, and I enjoyed it. The team I worked with was close, and we worked well together. We would often work overtime or fill in when a team member was out sick. Well, one month came and my area got over 2 feet of snow over the space of a month. I live about an hour away (on a good day) from work and had to be at work by 0600 hours for briefing before the day began and 0700 hours. Well, due to the early morning start time I often left home around 0430 hours, was at the park and ride by 0450, and got picked up by two co-workers who carpooled together to work and back. But due to the snow and freezing temperatures early in the mornings, I was unable to leave my house or drive anywhere due to the snow and ice on my driveway and the road. I drive a small Toyota Matrix XR that doesn’t handle that great in the snow and ice, even with studded tires on it. I called in each time I couldn’t come in and told my manager, and most often he was understanding. I was a good employee who had always worked hard and rarely had a problem. The kicker was that this company only would let you take time off if you had enough paid time off accumulated to cover it. Well, before the snow hit I had applied for time off for a trip to help my grandparents with some projects they needed help with, and it was approved and I thought I was good to go. When the day of the trip came, I left and was able to make it to my grandparent's house in good weather and road conditions over the mountain pass I had to go through to get to my destination. I had made all the necessary arrangements with my co-workers to cover my shifts before I left, and thought I had crossed all my T’s and dotted all my I’s. But, two days later, while still on my trip, I get an email from the company saying I had been terminated for “not fulfilling the terms of the contract.” by not working enough hours or something along those lines. I had to re-read the email multiple times for it to sink in, and I was pissed. It was all because I couldn’t get to work due to the weather before I left and I didn’t have enough PTO to cover it, and I wasn’t at work cause I was on a vacation that had been previously approved by the management. The only real good thing that stemmed from this was after I posted about losing my job on Facebook, a friend of mine hooked me up with another security company as a patrol officer where I had more freedom and did a lot better than at the job I had been terminated from. I lost my job and was reemployed within one week, all thanks to my friend pulling some strings at the patrol company. I loved the team at the patrol company and had a great time working the night shift. Have a great day.

Can you trust a private business--whose reason to exist is to generate a profit--to voluntarily adopt practices that undermine its bottom-line, such as fair wages, PTO, safe work environment, and ecologically responsible practices?

The OP is confused. The reason to exist for any free market business is to serve their customers. No customers - no existence. Private businesses can make a profit or a loss, depending on how well they serve their customers. If they need labor they must pay enough to attract people that will competently serve their customers. This includes benefits. It includes being safe which actually helps control costs as well as retain employees. Companies are run by people - the same being that runs government. I trust private businesses that I can “fire” by taking my business elsewhere MUCH more than politicians that gain power by promising to pay off their voters to the detriment of others. Government should make and enforce laws and not run anything!! Unless infeasible otherwise - military, etc.) My last five years were employed by Toyota. They had a policy to pay employees wages while they were doing charity work to benefit the company. Their corporate policies demanded ecologically sustainable practices and products. The people running the company realized they, their employees and families were part of society and had a responsibility to the society they functioned in. I rarely see this sense of responsibility out of politicians - unless they do it for virtue signaling in order to gain votes. Their ideas often don’t make sense except to get votes. Eliminate free private enterprise and you eliminate freedom.

How do I convert a light-duty diesel engine into a heavy- duty diesel engine?

The short answer is that you don’t, and light- and heavy duty are defined by the work they do, rather than the engines themselves. A highway diesel is built to produce peak torque at low RPMs - whether light duty or heavy duty. Another answer seems to confuse light duty highway engines with marine diesels. There’s only so much power you can get out of an engine. So, if you’re taking a 2.2 Toyota engine, 5.9 Cummins, et. al., yes you can give it more power than what it came with from the factory, but there’s always a trade off. I have a coworker with a Dodge which has a 5.9 Cummins that’s tuned to hell and back… I don’t remember exactly what the dyno test read, but it was over 900 horsepower and close to 1,300 ft./lbs. of torque. An 8.9 liter ISL9 engine from the factory at 380 horsepower produces 1,300 ft/lbs. of torque. Which, for the work that diesels do, torque is what’s important. Put either of those into a tandem axle truck, you’ll have close to matching pulling power. The 5.9 - having far greater horsepower - will have a higher top speed, which is fine if you’re racing… that ISL9 will still be enough to match any legal speed limit in the US it’ll encounter. But, there’s another factor to consider - longevity. The factory specs on that ISL9 were the result of analysis which anticipated a high amount of engine hours being racked up during its service life over a span of several years. My coworker’s 5.9, he just wanted a toy, so he completely went ape with it and maxed it out completely. He’s not trying to use it to run a dump truck, garbage truck, etc. long distances, run a PTO with it, and do it for many years. He built something just to have fun with.
