Tesla Autopilot gets low score for driver engagement in European safety rating https://t.co/boHfM9Cs4x
@flcnhvy tesla 96 vs Mercedes GLE 89 rewrote the headline too. #TSLA Tesla Autopilot scores highest marks for performance and ability to respond to emergencies in European safety rating | Article [AMP] | Reuters https://t.co/DBofopB00f
@JeffTutorials I’ve driven nearly 1500 miles the last two weeks (been nuts for work and personal). All between my Audi and my mom’s Mercedes GLE. If I had more of the negative equity in my car paid off I would have already placed a model 3 order. Not having autopilot sucks in traffic/general.
That’s absurd. Autopilot requires you to always keep your hands on the wheel & reminds you to do so every ~15 seconds in Europe, with both chimes & visual prompts. It’s pretty hard to ignore — and if you do, the car will automatically slow down & pull over with hazard lights on.

I recently considered Model X but bought a fully loaded Mercedes Ben GLE550e in the end because the electric range of the GLE550e is enough for my daily commute GLE has massage seats GLE can stay in the lane and steer itself during curves, not as good as the autopilot in the tesla but enough for me GLE feels more luxurious no range anxiety
If there’s someone who loves cars and is not into Tesla, I’d say they ought to be a mechanic rather than a car-buff! Tesla is the best thing that happened to the automobile industry, anyone who understands power, driving dynamics, future of automobile technology would fall in love with Tesla’s vision and innovation. It just defies the pace of innovation and technology compared to its gasoline counterparts. Though I’d not like it if I owned a dealership or a garage, also if I’m a mechanic or someone who gets high with the sound of an engine or smell of gas! I have driven and owned some of the most powerful vehicles. On an average I spent 3–4 hours per day thinking and talking about cars. I’m a researcher so few things come to me naturally - name a SUV and I’ll tell you its all available config, specs, capabilities and pricing from 3 continents, plus their history. Also, I’m an avid Elon Musk fan so I bought one of the first Tesla Model S in Canada and one of the few who got rid of it. Then came back to gas-world only to realize I’m mistaken and now going back to a Model X. The reason I let go of my Model S was low availability of supercharges in the prairies, I couldn’t enjoy the long drives as I used to do in eastern Canada as it took lot longer to charge it. You don’t wanna drive it for 3 hours and then recharge in 6 hours, the supercharger does it in 30 minutes while you sip a coffee. I bought a 2017 Mercedes GLE-AMG for the wife to replace the Model S, initially we were a bit relieved to hear the engine noise, get a feel of rev-ups, lesser technology and no range anxiety. In 3 months, we don’t have the same feelings. It’s not that the Mercedes doesn’t do what it promised, its just we miss the comfort of the Tesla especially on long drives, the convenience of its technical features and mostly the safety features and now we got supercharges in our area too!. Moreover a recent Model X 90D test drive got us hooked enough to book one rightaway, in 4 years Tesla has come a long way. The reasons some might hate it,: They got nothing to fix themselves, everything is software controlled. No more Saturday “do it yourself” sessions! No more wearing the dirty gloves, buying engine oil, fluid and spares… they might miss the smell, all they get now is an alien looking charging station in the garage. Shit, it just looks so clean! No more watching the gas prices and queues to fill-up before long weekends, its the same place, same price all year around… where’s the fun in it? A Tesla would beat the Ferrari’s and Lamborghini’s in drag races, not able to win they would talk about doing 100 laps at the ,Nürburgring, ,as if they drive there everyday... lame winning arguments, but nothing to show! No engine noise, no jerks with shifting gears… just the sound of wind and you see the Porsche’s, AMG’s and M3’s in the rear view, it just doesn’t tend to the adrenaline rush the usual way. The best of technology, you get to play any song from any part of the world, just name it and its FREE! What to do with the 1000 CDs, USBs and Siriux XM subscriptions. It just not so cool! No more paying for Navteq upgrades or begging your German dealer for free navigation upgrades, everything is free and gets done while you sleep. You don’t get to see the beautiful ladies and meet you buddy at the service center. And lately, what would I do in the Car if autopilot does everything, why does it lock when I go away… I didn’t even press the lock button on my key-fob, and it drives without me, using a cellphone app... WTF! And yeah, no victorious feeling of striking a deal. Everyone gets the same price, no haggling on packages and options, no smoking out the salesperson, no bragging around one’s masterful negotiation skills and no going around various dealerships comparing… everything via internet and all you get is a $1200 discount through a referral code from a Tesla owner… sounds like a scam! To end, Tesla might not be 100% of what anyone dreamed of 10 years ago, but still is “Magna cum laude” when others struggle to get passing grades. There would always be haters… mostly who lose business, some who just don’t get it, some who can’t afford it and some just because its the future!
Actually Tesla' auto pilot is not that great and simply they advertise like that to gain public attention. This is nothing new to Tesla to overdose everything as if they are now number one Innovator and their vehicles are having the best autonomous driving or so-called auto pilot. Recently Euro NCAP assessed the so-called driver assistance or autonomous driving tech in the car. They have given the ,best rating for Mercedes GLE, and it is the best driver assistance equipped car and so-called ,Tesla's autopilot ranks overall in 6th position. ..……… Image credit: Euro NCAP. Unfortunately the world believes who shows off that i am the best. The reality is something else always! https://euroncap.blob.core.windows.net/media/58765/euro-ncap-assisted-driving-2020-tesla-model-3-datasheet.pdf https://euroncap.blob.core.windows.net/media/58761/euro-ncap-assisted-driving-2020-mercedes-benz-gle-datasheet.pdf Before commenting, please compare these two pdf files from ,Euro NCAP, agency!
Tesla is not the most innovative automotive company, at least not as a whole. Maybe only in the engine and battery department. Mercedes has been making cars for 150 years, and are very often coming up first with safety features. As to why Tesla only scored moderate, while the Ford Kuga scored good and Mercedes GLE very good, maybe this helps “Tesla scored in the middle of the pack in the Euro NCAP ratings, because they found that it over-sells Autopilot capabilities, doesn't have a sophisticated driver monitoring system and because Autopilot disengages completely when a driver turns the wheel strongly. "Tesla's system name Autopilot is inappropriate as it suggests full automation," Euro NCAP wrote in a statement. "The promotional material suggests automation where the handbook correctly indicates the limitations of the system capabilities, which could lead to confusion." Thatcham's Matthew Avery also explained to CNBC that, when a driver moves the steering wheel on a Tesla Model 3 with Autopilot activated, the car initially resists their steering. When driver input is stronger, the car disconnects Autopilot entirely. Tesla Autopilot only relies on steering wheel input to detect if a driver is paying attention. The car's internal camera isn't used to make sure the driver is watching the road.”
