When have you learned to let go of your old car?

Old……relative term . I sent a 1996 Dodge 3/4 ton High Top Conversion Van to the scrapper / junkyard a couple years ago. It was RUSTED OUT. BUT…..the “Body” was perfect ! What ???!???!! I had to face up to some strange behaviors related to the Transmission and start up. I saw a peculiar , “Spider Web “ on a freeze plug on the BACK side of a V8 cylinder head so I wiped it out and then…..It began to weep,then leak . Up on my lift I suddenly realized the “dirt and clinging oily mess was not mung or crud…..It was oily RUST. Everywhere….. I believe I discovered somebody whom knew NOTHING about automobiles had owned this almost $50,000 dollar Van in it's life in …- FLORIDA - . Why is THIS significant ? “ Oh….ANTI- Freeze ,what do I need THAT FOR” ? “ It doesn't get cold enough to freeze here “ !!! So….most likely for who knows what reason ,I surmised they put the WORST substance you can put in your coolant system ,especially an iron block engine. “ Chlorinated Tap Water “ !!!!!!!! The freezing water was not dangerous ,but CHLORINE ,Hydrogen ,Oxygen and cast iron metals make iron oxide 24 hours a day….everyday. The Engine was rusted out from the INSIDE . So with $200 bucks of parts I never installed to return for refund,I junked it for $ 400 ,without the “ rebuilt transmission” or the Chrome Factory Wheels and spare,with excellent tires,or the custom folding seats and sleeper bench seat. I thought I'd get years out of this Van . I traded a worn out $400 Hobd Civic for it . I don't want to type my biggest disappointment ,but my “ Rebuilt Engine “ 1992 Isuzu Trooper 4 door, 4 cylinder ,5 speed. It was horrifying to work on ,got 15 mpg from a fuel injected 2.6L- 4 cylinder ! Turns out EPA rated it 15 & 12 mpg ! So…..It went to “CASH FOR CLUNKERS” for $4500 trade in on my 2009 Hyundai Elantra Touring new. After putting 4 TRASH tires on it and keeping the near New Goodyears and various other accessories and sound system. The Trooper just had piles of electrical & electronic mysteries ,horrible fuel mileage . It was in basically Perfect condition…..But I faced the music . I traded it for the most RELIABLE Car of my entire LIFE now 9 years ago.
