First of all affordable has too many aspects, it may not be the same for all peoples. But I can help you with giving some price brackets for a middle class Indian family. 3–6 lakhs In this range there is cars which is of hatchback types. As you probably know there are some class leading cars which I will be mentioning here. Renault Kwid, :- The small car which is loved by people mainly because of its SUV like looks and the practicality it brings on. You can have both the 1000cc and the 800cc version on this. The ride quality and the dynamics of this car is very good and for the feature list you will have the media nav touch screen system on the top models and will have the all door power window. And ABS and dual airbag is standard. Tata Tiago, :- One of the most underrated car in this segment. One of the best in class car to drive and also has ample amount of space. This offering from Tata is one good car in the price range. It have all the bells and whistle that a car in this segment will have. The top end has got 6 speakers which is a class first, but on a pricy side. Hyundai Santro, :- The legend is back with more features. In look wise the car is on the debatable side, some feels like the car is on the good side and others feel the design is a bit awkward. Personally am on the latter side especially at the front. In feature wise it miss out on automatic climate control even on the top end. While it gets a touch screen infotainment and quality speaker system. The driving dynamics and the power is well its good but nothing to be amazed of. 6–10 lakhs In this range one can opt to different segments like hatchbacks, mid size SUV and mid size sedans Hyundai Elite i20, :- One of the best car that you can buy in this segment. The diesel variant of the i20 is the one you can go for because it has very good power delivery and as it is a Hyundai its feature packed. The audio system sounds especially well in this one. However the petrol variant feels somewhat underpowered(mainly youngsters will only feel this). One can always make this as the go to option in this price range. Maruti Suzuki Baleno, :- Another go to car in the segment. Baleno is a good car when it comes to the petrol engine. The car also has the backing of Suzuki when it comes to the after sales portion. The Baleno has good mileage and it is also feature loaded. The driving dynamics and all is good for this car. Honda Amaze, :- The entry level sedan for a family. Has got all the bells and whistles that this segment offers. With the new update the amaze has got the 1.5l engine which gives more power to car and the dimensions of car has also increased. The amaze is a perfect car for a family and it has the nice engine which Honda offers. The driving dynamics of the car is also good. Tata Nexon, :- Another offering from Tata. This is another best car in this segment which is a mid size SUV. The car has very good engine and it is feature packed and the car is spacious. On the looks the car is eye catching and it has scored a clean 5 star rating in the Euro NCAP safety test. The other good cars we can get in this segment are: Ford Ecosport, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna. The reason I haven’t mentioned them is that at this price bracket we can only get the low trim of these.
Because of the pathetic car quality. I purchased a Renault Duster RXZ in July 2017. My experience: a) Car stopped on my drive to home from showroom itself. b) I asked for a replacement and had to fight for it. c) Given a replacement car after 2 days of accepting the issue. I was out of station my father collected it. d) New car already had 250km on it. They give a stickable religious icon to be stuck on the dashboard. This car had a Jesus. With all respect to Christ and his followers, it is odd. I think the previous owner who was a Christian dumped the car back to the dealer and he dumped it on me. e) Still I drove the new car. Rattling noises come from the dashboard. f) The RXZ model has reverse cam built in the media nav. It stops working intermittently. g) The renault person tells me there is a manufacturing defect with a 3mm gap in the dashboard and the body somewhere that causes the rattling noise. h) They take my car to the workshop 10 times unable to fix it. As a fix they put extra foam in the gap, because somehow that will stick, I am aghast at these engineering geniuses. i) I am blocked by them on twitter and facebook because I complained. j) I took them to consumer court. Lost the case. Judgment reads since I didnt provide a third party report from independent verifier for the manufacturing defect. Nothing can be validated for my claims. My lawyer never told me this needs to be done. The result came in 1.5 years. h) My 3rd servicing cost is 14k. When i had asked the sales person while on test drive he had said after free service my cost should be around 6–7k max. Mind you 3rd service is “free”. i) Recently driving in the hills suddenly the gear got locked. I am driving somewhere high in himalaya and my gear gets jammed. You can understand my situation. I am told the gear pads are broken within 2 years of purchase. j) The wiper blades has broken as well. Which they say is normal. Anyways, their CEO Carlos Ghosn is in a Japanese jail. May be thats why. Focus on company and customer seems to be last on his mind.
The RXT is an upgraded model of KWID, and personally i feel it is better to go for the RXT. Key advantages: Central Locking & Keyless entry for RXT GPS Navigation for RXT (Probably RXL does not have the Media NAV system, which is a brilliant feature, in a budget car) RXT variants have the option of Airbag in it (RXL variants dont offer it) As for your other question on 800cc vs. 1000cc, the difference is purely in terms of Engine capacity. 1000cc (999cc, actually, to be precise), gives better power, and hence operates more smoothly, especially when AC is on, and there are people in the car (800cc is difficult to drive in these conditions) I own the RXT 1.0 AMT variant and absolutely love the experience! :)
IF you mean that dongle that transforms you Media Nav in android play no. It is not working. The Car Play Dongle usually is used for android navigations. The only chance to have the Car PLAY on Medianav is to buy the new version ~300 EURO MEDIA NAV EVO 2 or MN3 how i say to it. (Version from 1.0.13.XX) You can read more about Media Nav versions or capabilities at: ,Medianav & Medianav Evolution (Car GPS Renault & Dacia) - All you need to know — Lisandru Blog
I’ll suggest you to go for Renault kwid as it has everything that you would expect from a 3–4 lakh car. Pros 300 ltr boot Touch screen Media Nav Nice Interior Decent Mileage Cons Small engine (800cc) Limited features Other than this you have options like Maruti alto, datsun redi go,hyndai eon
If you are a beginner, I suggest you to start with a small car. Don't go for long hatchback or SUVs. There are not too many cars available at this price but ill suggest you two car- Alto k10– consider its vxi (o) variant. It might cost you few more bucks than your budget but you'll get these important features- Front Power Windows, Driver Airbags, Central Locking, Front Fog Lamps, Child Safety Lock, Adjustable headlamps, Gear Shift Indicator. For these features and because of Maruti's 1000cc engine. This is my first choice. Alto offers driver airbag as standard. So you can opt for other variants too. If you are happy without the features like power windows than you can go with any other variant. Renault kwid-The entry-level product from Renault India, the Kwid, is available at an extremely competitive price.Being a strict budget car, the equipment list is short but sweet. The top-spec variant gets a 7-inch touchscreen Media-Nav system, digital instrument cluster, remote keyless entry with central locking, one-touch lane change indicator and front fog lamps as standard. Comparison of these two cars- Based on price, specifications & other features, of Maruti Alto K10 and Renault KWID. Maruti Alto K10 is priced between ₹ 3.31 - ₹ 4.35 Lakh while Renault KWID is priced between ₹ 2.67 - ₹ 4.60 Lakh. Talking about the technical specifications, ,Maruti Alto K10, houses 998 cc engine whereas ,Renault KWID, engine displacement is 799 cc.the Alto K10 has a mileage of 32.26 km/kg (Petrol top model)> and the KWID has a mileage of 25.17 km (Petrol top model). Alto k10– Renault kwid- I might be wrong with features and other figures. Please visit the showrooms once. ~Alok~
