Why did Australia have rear-wheel drive cars for a much longer time than the United States?

Why did Australia have rear-wheel drive cars for a much longer time than the United States? Are you sure about that? Front wheel drive arrived in Australia in the 1950s with the import or local assembly of Citroen cars, notably the “Traction Avant”. Not too many came, since the model was changed in 1956 or 57. Citroen Traction Avant (1934-1957) This was followed in the Australian market by the Citroen DS series which were sold here until 1975. Citroën DS - Wikipedia In 1960 or 61 the Morris Mini appeared in Australia. Massive success. Mini - Wikipedia A later, larger model was the Morris 1100, very popular with those who did not care about 6 or 8 cylinder engines. Very smooth ride from a hydraulic suspension and locally assembled. BMC ADO16 - Wikipedia Soon after came the Austin 1800, known as the “land crab”. Bigger again and faster than the 1100, it would cruse all day at 100 kph or a bit over. A bastard to reverse park because of the heavy engine and gears over the front wheels and no power steering. Sneered at in it’s day because it was ugly. Locally assembled. BMC ADO17 - Wikipedia In 1970 the Australia and New Zealand only Austin Tasman and Kimberley were introduced but were only produced for about 3 years. My father had one, it was OK but not as good a car as the 1800s were. Austin Kimberley - Wikipedia What market penetration did front wheel drive cars have in the USA in 1966? I remember when the Oldsmobile Toronado was introduced in the USA it was regarded as radical I will bet that there were proportionately far more front wheel drive cars in Australia right from 1966 on.

How can one GPU be stronger than another if they have the same amount of VRAM? I have a 1660 Ti 6GB VRAM. Would upgrading for an RTX 3050 6 GB VRAM be an upgrade?

In the same way in which a Porsche 911 can be faster than a Citroen Berlingo even though they both have around 60L fuel tank capacity. The VRAM capacity only determines how much data the graphics card can hold close to the GPU, but says nothing about the speed of the GPU itself (although often manufacturers will pair faster GPUs with more VRAM).

Which is the best combination in South Indian food?

Which is the best combination in South Indian food? A2A. 1 Idli and Sambhar. Obviously this will come to every one’s mind first while reading this question. 2 Ven Pongal and Medu Vadai with coconut / mint chutney. My personal favourite for over fifty years. 3 Curd rice with mango/lemon/Citroen pickles. Very simple but heavenly combination. Filling and harmless. 4 Vegetable Brinji rice/ biryani and kuruma. This is vegetarian alternative to the original biryani lovers. 5 Set Dosai with Vadacurry. A true badass among the generally bland South Indian vegetarian dishes. 6 Hot jalebis or gulab jamoons with Ice cream. May not be exactly South Indian but popular as dessert in many dinners/ buffets nowadays. Since I am a strict vegetarian, I don’t know anything about non - vegetarian dishes.

Is it a good idea to lease a car from Renault or Citroen for 6 months solo travel in Europe?

Costs - many cities in Europe have high parking costs, so if you are visiting them this will add significantly to your budget. For example in Nice it can cost 8 euros for 4 hours. Travelling in France - if you are using the autoroute the. There are also the toll costs. Insurance - this is essential. If you take basic insurance, then your excess policy maybe 1000 euros so any small dent can set you back. Also you would have to check if your rental allows you to take the car out of one country and into another. Same with the insurance policy. Have you do considered getting a European interrail card which will make your journeys a lot cheaper. Interrail Planner Overall I think you should look at rail travel or coach travel as a better option, so you can stress less and enjoy the ride.

What does the US need from the EU? Are we going to struggle with a lack of Brie, Citroens, Belgian Beer, or Spanish Oranges?

Perhaps the 325 billion dollars of export value that comes from having Europe as an accessible consumer market? I think it’s rather cute that all you can imagine an entire continent of people produces are foodstuffs that you consider a novelty. Europe produces many different goods that are integral to the production process of many major American corporations, and it represents a market that is invaluable to many exporters as well. When you think of Germany, I assume you’ll just think that the US imports a few gallons of beer a year right? Well, no, the US imports over $27 billions worth of cars, almost $6 billion worth of car parts, $12 billion worth of packaged medicaments. But those are just examples from one EU economy.

What do French people think of Citroen?

I am a fan of Citroën. I have owned a Citroën car since 2001, and as you can see in my Bio, I lived in Dubai so it requires some effort to buy and maintain a Citroën here (much easier since the AL Rostomani is the agent). My grandfather owned a Traction Avant before WW2 (It was requisitioned and he never got it back), he bought a new one when he could after the WW2, then retired in 1962 he bought a Ami 6. This car was extraordinary it was working perfectly fine until his death in 1992. My uncle also bought a lot of Citroën, GS and CX. My father, bought Renault and he influenced me until I went to Brasil and was part of the team built the Renault Factory and then the Peugeot-Citroën Factory. Of all of the 3 teams, I liked the Citroën company culturethe best. They strikes the right balance between the very individualistic and backstabbing Renault, and the very German -like Peugeot. Since then I have been faithful to Citroën.

Is there a reason why French automakers like Renault, Citroen, and Peugeot never sold vehicles in North America?

As the other respondents have pointed out, Renault, Citroen and Peugeot did indeed sell cars in the US. In fact, many of the Chrysler cars and Jeeps we drive today have a bit of French car in them. The primary reason Citroen stopped selling here was that they didn’t feel the sales justified adjusting to US regulations. For instance, the Citroen sold almost 1.5 million DS’s worldwide—a lot even by US standards and an unmitigated success. (I live in California and have owned three). The SM was a marvelous car—my favorite of all the cars I’ve owned—but it was built at the start of the fuel crisis and when Peugeot bought the company they felt the expensive Maserati engine was too much trouble. But Citroen's employed a number of innovations that made it problematic for the US market. The first was their legendary hydropneaumatic suspension which included automatic leveling and variable ground clearance which allowed early Citroen's to drive on the war-ravaged roads common in France after World War II. By the way, I’ve owned four Citroens to date (2 DS’s, 1 SM and a CX) and ,never had any problem with the hydropneaumatic suspension, or engine or transmissions,. In fact, mechanically, the Citroen's (aside from electrical issues) have been the most reliable cars I’ve owned. They are also among the easiest to maintain cars I ever worked on. But US safety regulations mandated specific bumper and headlight height (maximum height for passenger cars today is 22 inches) or to allow cars to employ headlights behind glass and required collapsible steering columns. But Citroen’s hydropneaumatic suspension meant that their bumpers varied in ride height, so that wouldn’t work. Citroen also covered their headlights with glass to improve aerodynamic efficiency and their single-spoke, curved steering columns couldn’t impale the driver so didn’t need to collapse. But that still didn’t work for the US regulators. And, since Citroen’s tried and true hemi four-cylinder engine would have to be reworked to meet new emission standards, Citroen choose not to continue in the US market. And the Citroen CX, introduced in 1974 and never imported to the US sold almost 1.2 million, so even without the US market, it was still quite a success. Renault ,sold a number of different models in the US. From the Dauphine and Caravalle and later the R4, R5, R6, R12, R15, R16 and R17 (Fuego). Renault partnered with American Motors which used Renault parts and engineering expertise to the improve of their in-line 6 cylinder engine, switching to the Renault/Bendix-based port electronic fuel injection system to improve performance from 110 to 177 hp. Renault sold AMC to Chrysler in 1987 but was still involved in developing the Eagle Premier (started while still in partnership with AMC) and Chrysler inherited the state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Ontario, Canada, and the development for the Chrysler cars Eagle Vision and the Chrysler 300. Renault also had major interest (almost 50%) in Mack Trucks. Today, Renault’s involvement in the US market is mostly through partnerships with Volvo and Daimler-Benz. Peugeot, has sold many cars in the US. But like other European economy car makers, Peugeot’s United States sales of the 505 slowed. Distribution, at least in Canadian was through Chrysler. Peugeot tried to improve sales in the United States, with the Peugeot 405 but by July 1991, the company to cease its U.S. and Canada operations after 33 years.
