I need to replace the tires on my Isuzu freezer truck. They now have passenger car tires 195 75 R15. What would be the closest size trailer tire if I need to change rim size to match this size?
You cannot safely place trailer tires on a passenger vehicle. Period. Why not stick with the OEM tire size which the engineers and designers at Isuza determined would be best for your truck? Doesn’t that make perfect sense to you? It should.
Can you drive manual/stick cars?
As a sixteen year old, in 1969, I applied for a summer job driving an ice cream truck. This was one of those vans like a UPS truck with a window in the side for selling to kids at the curb. I didn’t know how to drive a manual transmission but one of my parent’s friends agreed to teach me. At the time the VW beetle was a very, very common car. My first lesson was in one. The beetle had a very low powered engine but it had a first gear ratio that allowed for easy starts. In an hour or so my parent’s friend had me driving fairly confidently around our flat suburban neighborhood. Many people my age learned to drive manual transmission on beetles. Next I had to learn to drive the truck. The business owner took me out to try it and I repeatedly stalled. The truck was a heavy thing with a freezer full of lead plates in the back and a “three on the tree” gearshift. It took a more expert touch on the clutch to begin from a complete stop. Fortunately, I was able to get the knack before the boss gave up on me. It is true that manual transmissions are uncommon in the USA today but back then there were many cars and trucks that had them. I’ve owned the following vehicles with manual transmissions: 1964 Rambler American (my first car, it cost $75) 1974 Ford Mustang II (terrible car like a pinto) 1978 Ford Fiesta (a European built Ford that was lots of fun to drive) 1983 Nissan pick up 1986 Isuzu Trooper II (my first four wheel drive vehicle, it had a two range four speed transmission) 1988 Ford Ranger four wheel drive pickup 1990 Ford Ranger pickup 1993 Saturn SL1 Sedan (an inexpensive, reliable car with decent handling) 2000 Mazda 626 (this had a peppy V6, a very refined 6 speed manual and was really fun to drive) 2005 MINI Cooper S ( this supercharged car was the best handling car I’ve owned. I would prefer it to my brother in law’s BMW Z3) Automatic transmissions today are so smooth and have so many gear ratios that they really are superior to manuals. My current Mazda CX5 has a 6 speed automatic and gets as good fuel economy as any car I have owned.
