A definite NO. It is recommended not to tamper with the Factory fitted OEM settings of Maruti Suzuki Ciaz (or any other car brand) with after - market products like Cruise Control as it might not adapt to the system and may possibly fail anytime. Imagine, cruise - control malfunction when you are speeding up on a highway. It can be blood curdling. You can possibly risk a bit with a sophisticated rear view mirror with Dash Cam as an accessory or an extra set of high beam halogens, car power window winder kits, parking sensors with back up camera as the alterations / damage can be very minimal. Never even attempt to think about critical things in a car like Cruise Control, Ignition key, LPG gas kit conversion etc After all, a car is built all mechanical and electronics. In fact, I use cruise control and am so conscious after a few hundred kilometres of driving alone on an empty highway, I suddenly get a spine-chill and safely press the brake pedal to slow down just to reassure myself that all is well. ,We need to be alert and aware we are driving a car, at all times when we on the steering wheel. Cruise control as a factory fitted OEM is good, but at times, it does takes off our attention momentarily leading to some unexpected fatalities. Loss of control of vehicle happens when a 2 wheeler or a stray cow accidentally running haphazard into the main highway from a merging lane which we fail to notice from a distance. In unfamiliar terrain, cruise control set at say 120 kmpl may lead to instability of car and lose balance particularly in blind corners in spite of last minute unexpected braking. In the case of wet roads, things can turn even worse with improper tyre pressure to add to our woes. Snow, sand storms, flash floods, boulders rolling down from mountains, blinding rains on long expressways can lead to crashing onto slow / stationery car queues due to poor visibility when ,cruise control is on. Cruise control can also lead to driver fatigue over a period of time on a long expressway with no life around. They tend to take off one hand from the steering wheel and also prop up one of their legs on the dashboard just to stretch out a bit. This is dangerous. It is best the driver and co-driver refrain from sitting unusually and removing their seat belts while the car is on the move. Be Alert. Drive safe. Your family is more important than the pleasure of an after - market cruise control. Picture source : Google Images
Don’t even think about it. It requires all sort of re-wiring and will lead to your warranty becoming void (if applicable). In all probability, if the wiring isn’t done, it could lead to failure of certain systems. These add on cruise control systems don’t have the functionality and reliability of the stock ones provided by the manufacturer.
That would be something you and “your” mechanic need to work out. If the mechanic is his own boss then a labor rate or a fixed price agreement is something you need to agree on. If this mechanic works for a shop then the shop labor rate is going to apply; there’ll be no negotiating on labor rate in that case. You, obviously, have no idea how to install this cruise control. You are paying for the expertise, training and skill of “your” mechanic. What do you do for a living? Do you get paid well for what you do? Does the boss ever ask you to do your job for less money or maybe offer to negotiate your salary because, well, it’s an easy job you’ve got and this month funds are kinda tight? How would you feel in that case? Same deal with “your” mechanic. How much is it worth to you, given you have an absolutely zero skill set for this task, to have this mechanic correctly, competently and safely install this cruise control system in your car?
Yes. The cost and complexity of the installation will vary with the technology level of the vehicle. Back in the '70s, Sears catalogue offered cruise control kits that a DIYer could install on their car. These included everything from magnets to strap onto the driveshaft (for the speed sensor) to the servomotor that operated the throttle. For more modern cars (anything with an electronically-controlled engine), the best route is to get the cruise control parts from a higher trim level that included it as an option. Again, the technology level will affect the complexity. For example, the Chilton manual for my first car covered all Hyundai products where the model was still sold in the early '90s. It covered the optional cruise control for the Sonata (at the time, their top end vehicle), and used a servomotor to operate the throttle. Due to advances since the '70s, the speedometer already used an electronic speed sensor, which the cruise control "piggybacked" on. For newer vehicles with "drive by wire" throttle control it's even easier. Pretty much all that's needed are the actual controls, and to enable it in the ECM. This reduction in the unit cost of cruise control is part of the reason why it's now available on almost all car models, rather than high-end cars only. Note that cruise control can be used with a manual transmission, although it is less useful than with an automatic. If you encounter an uphill stretch, an automatic transmission can downshift while remaining in cruise control (might not be able to maintain desired speed), but it will disengage when you downshift a manual. A few things to remember about cruise control. First is to NEVER use it in slippery conditions - it's too easy to break traction and lose control. Second is that it will keep you UP to the desired speed, but not DOWN to the desired speed. If you get onto a downhill stretch, you can easily wind up over the speed limit thanks to gravity - and the bottom of a hill is a favourite spot for radar traps. Some vehicles (you probably don't drive one) have some limited auto-engage braking if desired speed is exceeded in a downhill (cruise and "jake" can be activated at the same time, will accelerate or retard as needed), others require disengaging cruise control to use the "jake".
Getting a ticket can be traumatic but in time they go off your record. The solution is to not speed. If you have a heavy foot this can be difficult. I have a practical solution. I drive a car with a big V-8 and it's easy to find myself doing 90 on the freeway. I make liberal use of my cruise control wherever I am. When I have bought a car without cruise control I buy a cruise control kit and install it. I have done this on almost all of my cars. They're worth the money. I generally set them at five miles over the speed limit. I also use my GPS speedometer since it's more accurate than the car speedometer. cruise control kit
yes, there is a technique when gas was almost $4-$5 a gallon in California, Southern California, called “hypermiling”. That’s where one drives deliberately in the slow lane 5–10 mph below the speed limit to save gas. But if I saw a car tail-gating me, I would speed up. That said, yeah, they would think, you’re drunk or something. I know a lady, older lady, she drives a Jaguar, and always does 45 mph on the freeway. She doesn’t get tickets. The best way is to use your car’s cruise control and drive the EXACT SPEED LIMIT. That’s what I do. Most car cruise control will work as low as 25 mph. As long as the the sensor can read the magnet turning on the wheel, your cruise control, it will work. On all 5 of my cars, I’ve tested it. They all work down to 25 mph, 30, 35, 40, 45… 90, 100 MPH and more. The older cars had mechanical magnet sensors, not like the new cars with electronic transmission controlled and ECUs that control the speed, but even those will also work as low as 25 mph. There are even after-market kits you can install on your car that don’t come from the factory with cruise control. YOU WANT TO BLEND IN, not stand out: anything that stands out will attract LEO — Law Enforcement Officers. It’s just human nature. Don’t make a lot of lane changes. Don’t drive a bright red sports cars, yeah you will definitely stand out and be noticed. I was once asked what’s the best time to drive and not be noticed by cops. ,Answer:, Rush hour: too many cars on the road. During the Ted Bundy serial killer reign, Florida cops stopped every car at night from 12 midnight to 4 a.m. They noticed ONE commonality. Everyone that was out during that time stood out and had a Felony. Criminals are nocturnal. Don’t drive at night. A single car headlight at night stands out. That’s when most everyone is asleep for their next day at work. If you like this answer please give me an upvote below - Thanks!
There is one storyi heard (I don't know how true this is but funny nonetheless) about a woman who bought a new camper van. The van came with all the mod cons, fully working kitchen, state of the art living quarters etc etc, really top of the range piece of kit. Apparently she crashed whilst driving her new van home, she put it in cruise control, and expecting the van to drive itself she went into the kitchen to make a sandwich. By all accounts she won a decent sized figure and now, all vehicles with cruise control have a disclaimer in the manual making it quite clear that cruise control doesn't allow you to leave the wheel.
To maintain speed on the highway without having to continually keep pressure on the accelerator. And here in the US, where the distances can be vast, you need it. Last year I bought a very nice, low mileage ’91 Volvo 940GLE and drove it home from San Antonio, Texas to Port Charlotte, FL. That car did not have the optional, dealer installed cruise control. And by the time I finished driving it 1300 miles home in 2.5 days, I thought my leg was going to fall off. Here are the directions for that trip. Get on I-10, drive ~900 miles. Turn right onto I-75, drive ~400 miles. And there isn’t all that much traffic for most of it. I took 2.5 days because I spent a half day at the Naval Air Museum in Pensacola, FL. I ordered and installed the cruise control kit when I got home - and wished I had taken it with me to San Antonio!
