Is the Maruti Suzuki Celerio good for a first time buyer?

Are you looking at Petrol / diesel car? It's a good car but not a great car. In the last 2 years I've never faced any major concerns with the vehicle, it runs smoothly and is a blessing in traffic conditions. Just knocks on the exhaust, if given very little power but never stalled. The fuel economy is average and you can expect around 20/21 in the city with the Aircon on and around 23 in the highways ( looses a lot of power with the Aircon on) No way it would hit 25 kmpl , what the sales guys tell you. Somewhere deep down inside I feel it is under powered,. Don't get me wrong, the K10 engine is responsive and zippy for a city drive but I feel it should have gotten the 1.3 l swift engine (or it may be me after driving a 1.6 l petrol car). For the price it's a good buy there are many other options with AMT / CVT auto options. The Manual override is not very fun to drive. I would suggest have a look at the Zest, Brio and Micra. Try avoiding the alto, the cabin space isn't very impressive. The dash and interiors are average and you can expect a two tone interior (sorta old school layouts) nothing the others won't provide. For a first time / new driver id suggest learn on an manual transmission but none the less it's a value for money car and the Maruti service is affordable when compared to its competition. Average service cost around 3.5 to 8k depending on the oil you choose 3 adults in the back seat would mean they gotta squeeze in. Overall 5/7. Also if you are booking one soon, keep asking the sales guys for discouts and go for the 3 years extended warranty with roadside assistance. You can probably bring him down to 8–10k or get freebies (mats carpets, seat covers…) Always wear the seat belt.!

How does AMT (automated manual transmission) manage to slip while in drive mode as these cars do not have a torque converter to allow slipping? Does the clutch mechanism do all the job usually done by TC in an automatic?

After reading two answers and not getting the answers to what i have asked, i think i should make the subject more clear.. Any automatic transmission with the regular oil filled Torque Converter (TC) has a way of slipping when it is in DRIVE mode. That means when the engine is started and the stick is moved to D, there is a connection between the engine and the wheel through gears. But if the brake is pressed, neither the vehicle moves nor the engine stops because the TC acts as a cushion by SLIPPING. Now for an AMT (automated Manual Transmission), visualize the same situation as above. The engine is started, is in Neutral, so no problem as the engine is not connected to the wheel and is free revving. As soon as the gear is moved to ‘DRIVE’, a connection between engine is established with the wheels through the gears. As long as the brake is kept pressed the vehicle remains static, which immedialtely tries to stall the engine. The cars here in question is i) Maruti Suzuki Celerio ii) Brezza iii) TATA Nexon iv) Renault Duster etc., all produced in India. MY QUESTION IS, “,APART FROM A CONVENTIONAL CLUTCH PLATE ACCESSORIES, WHAT MORE IS THERE TO SLIP ?,” I wanted to know this because if the clutch assembly is allowed for long slip, it will be burned out in no time. But since a TC is not there in an AMT, the only thing that can slip is clutch. If only the clutch is slipping then it has to continuously slip not only at the time of starting and driving, but every time the vehicle comes to a halt, in a stop and go traffic, whenever the car is changing gears and also while reversing in slow speed. ANYONE FROM INDIAN SIDE, PLS HELP,..!!
