1984 honda aero 80, 1985 cb650 nighthawk, 1986 cb700sc nighthawk s, 2004 kawasaki vulcan nomad, 2010 honda sh150, 2012 Honda silverwing, 2012 honda goldwing, 2015 yamaha FJR, 2018 Honda nc750x DCT. All were good. I changed. Big bike? FJR by far. Comfort , power. Scooter , aero 80, first bike Medium bike, all were good but the NC does it all well, comfort, storage, efficient, low rpm on highway, 150 lbs lighter than FJR, and as i get older, automatic transmission!
Not my style of bike as a rider but as a mechanic who worked on all three Harley wins by a mile Triumph not that reliable age badly Enfield made for India and it shows cheaply made My faverite Honda or Yamaha current bike NC750X dct last Fazer FZ6 last / only non jap Laverda Jota I riden most mskes and worked on a lot !
I been riding over 45 years currently ride a Honda NC750X dct. It an auto but uses a manual style gearbox with twin input shafts and two clutches all computer driven. Very fast smooth changes better than a sportbike quick shifter Wat is not to love
Depends on where you live your life style you licence and ability to ride Examples Live in a city seldom travel far small say 100 to 125 Japonise scooter Me I live in the country run a workshop in London a 20 mile commute each way 5 or 6 days a week current Honda NC750X dct also big enough to tour When I lived closer I used cub90 to commute had another bike for weekends There is no such thing as a perfect bike

That’s basically what scooters are made from; less fuel capacity for higher storage. Scooters usually have around 5 liter tanks, which is tiny compared to motorcycles that usually have at least 10 liters. Touring motorcycles have at least 18 liters. The first problem you’ll encounter is range. When you reduce tank capacity, you’ll reduce range. A motorcycle with 18 liter fuel tank is much better for everyday use and long trips than a motorcycle with 5 liter fuel tank. This is one of the reasons why motorcycle fuel tanks remain at least above 11 liters. The second problem is styling. When you want to increase storage, you’ll have to find a way to put that storage on a motorcycle without ruining the motorcycle’s image. Honda has actually made a motorcycle with built-in storage compartment large enough for a full-face helmet by sacrificing fuel tank capacity. This motorcycle looks like any other motorcycle right? Well, this is the Honda NC750x, what’s so special about this is, it has a storage compartment where the fuel tank usually is, that is big enough for a full face helmet. Where is the fuel tank you might ask? Well, under the seat. Sounds like a scooter, doesn’t it? (If you get the DCT option, it basically is scooter, but luckily there’s a manual transmission option too). Of course, to achieve this, they had to sacrifice fuel tank capacity drastically. A motorcycle of this size would usually have around 18 liters, but the NC750x has a fuel capacity of just 11 liters. To increase the total range, Honda had to increase the MPG, and to do it, they had to limit the RPM to 6500 RPM. The point is, the NC750x, a motorcycle with decent storage with sacrificed fuel capacity, exists and you go out and buy one anytime you like; but is it the motorcycle that everybody wants? Not really.
My guess is it will becoming an increasing focus for them. There are plenty of people who want to ride who may find manual motorcycles intimidating, they may be physically impaired and unable to operate a clutch or shifter, or they may not want to bother with shifting. DCT offers a choice, and at least in the US they are the ,only, choice for a full-size, gasoline powered automatic motorcycle. Sure, there are scooters. And yes, there is the Zero but they have limited range. So that puts them in a spot to sell to people who may not otherwise buy the bike. Case in point, I bought a NC750X DCT because it had the DCT, and I ,only, bought it because it had the DCT. Were I to buy a manual motorcycle it would not have been the NC750X. It probably wouldn't have even been a Honda. With the motorcycle market in decline it makes sense for Honda to capitalize on any niche they can find, and automatic motorcycles is a good one considering there is no competition to speak of.
Is the Honda NC750X DCT a good and reliable touring bike for two up? It certainly can be, this is the 2019 with optional luggage. It has a lot of the bells and whistles of the big boy tourers without all the extra weight - some are options. DCT (you shift with paddles or let the bike shift), heated grips, ABS, Selectable traction control, Lots of storage on the bike plus optional hard cases, low center of gravity and a decent amount of power for two up riding. You can get a standard 6 speed transmission. It’s a little light on HP at around 60 but the torque is good at around 70. that should give you a good relaxed ride, but you aren’t going to win any races two up. It’s a touch heavy at 500 pounds for a small bike, but the low center of gravity should make for a good ride. For touring, it’s a bit light on fuel capacity at 3.7 gallons. You and your mate will have to go sit on one to see if you both fit the bike. Hondas are known for their reliability. This bike has been around long enough for the bugs to have been worked out. It would have been nice if honda had fitted a shaft drive for lower maintenance, but they probably didn’t to hold down costs.
Right now, a commuter. Mine gets 68mpg, has storage, automatic transmission, 3000rpm at 60mph. Upright alert riding position. Honda NC750X DCT. (Im good unless yamaha slaps a DCT on their FJR)
