I’m 21 years old and I don’t have a car, which I need for school transportation. My father is dealing with financial issues, and is often negative. He tells me I can’t get a car working a part time job, is this true? How can I achieve this?
I have two sons, 17 and 19. Both have cars working part-time jobs (the older one actually has two cars right now). My 19-year-old is out of high school and is taking classes toward a nursing degree. He is able to work more hours than his brother because of his schedule. When he was 16, he bought a 1989 Honda Prelude for $600. That car was adequate, but he wanted something a little nicer. Last year he bought a 1995 Civic for $1300. That car was better but he wanted something nicer still, so he continued to save his money he earned from a part-time job and recently bought a 1996 Acura Integra for $2800. That car is awesome - he looked around and was able to find one with very high miles on the odometer, but the engine had been swapped to a slightly better one from a Honda CR-V, the transmission had been swapped to a manual (the way a proper car should be), the suspension was replaced with adjustable coil-overs, the brakes had been upgraded, and the wheels had been replaced. The car looks great and is absolutely a blast to drive. (The $2800 price tag included a new, upgraded clutch for future use, as well as most of the parts he will need to add a turbo in the future, including the turbo, exhaust manifold, and intercooler.) My younger son bought a 1997 Civic last year for $900. It ended up having some engine trouble, so we swapped in a different engine. We’ll be replacing the transmission soon as well, but on that car used transmissions are cheap, and we can do it in half a day. If you view a car as more of an appliance and don’t want to have fun with it, there are lots and lots of “boring” cars out there as well, for very little money. They won’t be beautiful, they might smell inside (something you can dramatically improve for nearly free with some effort), and they’ll have more miles than most people think is reasonable, but they’re readily available. Learn to do your own maintenance and repairs, and you’ll save piles and piles of money.
Was the American P-47 Thunderbolt a formidable plane during WWII?
The P-47 Thunderbolt was very likely the best high-altitude fighter of the war. It was designed around a highly-efficient turbo supercharging system that ducted air for the turbine and intercooler under the cockpit. This deep fuselage gave the aircraft a somewhat portly appearance but endowed great ruggedness in addition to the air flow properties. Because of its size and aerodynamic properties, the P-47 could out-dive any fighter in the world and - equipped with eight .50 caliber machine guns - was absolutely devastating when it caught up with an enemy plane below it. It was ideal top cover for 8th AF bombers. Many a Luftwaffe fighter pilot met his end when jumped by P-47s. It is very sobering to watch P-47 gun camera films of Fw-190s being disintegrated by fire from these weapons. The aircraft suffered many teething troubles and didn’t really mature until the D-model, which was produced in greater numbers than any other subtype American fighter. It was very fast but climb rate suffered until paddle-blade props were introduced. The M model was faster than a P-51D by 33 mph and the aircraft was surprisingly maneuverable for its size, with a very respectable rate of roll. The major shortcoming was range, which was progressively improved through drop-tank adaptations and ultimately the N-model, which had P-51-like range. In addition to the escort role, the P-47 excelled at ground attack. Great firepower coupled with outstanding ruggedness made it ideal for this job. Units were moved to advanced airfields in France after the invasion and from these primitive strips it shared the job of close support with the nearly equally-formidable Hawker Typhoon. The P-47 was the most rugged fighter of the war - and that is saying something when the F6F and F4U are comparators. Many a pilot owed his life to the rugged construction saving him in a forced landing. And - this is a critical factor - the P & W R-2800 engine that powered it was famous for rugged reliability. P-47s - nicknamed “jugs” for their shape - flew home with “jugs” (engine cylinders) completely blown off. This was an amazing combination of airframe and engine. The P-47 is one of the immortal aircraft that fought and won the war. Now it is a delight to see and hear at airshows. But during the war it epitomized the overarching power of U.S. aviation and the industrial base behind it. It was the larger-than-life gunfighter - tough as nails, powerful, deadly, and rawboned as the American west. But it was given its basic design by a Russian émigré on a train from Washington to New York’s Long Island when returning from a meeting with USAAF officials. It served in all theaters of the war and could have done even more if it had been sent to Korea. It could have been - but that is another story. The P-47 is iconic, a living reminder of a time when brute power and force was applied for a great and good cause - and prevailed. The spirit of the P-47 is wholly American and wholly victorious. Of all the many great aircraft of the war this one lies at apex of that metaphorical “Mt. Olympus” along with such icons as the B-17 and Spitfire. It was a true thoroughbred.

Diesel powered cars are being banned and petrol engines would definitely take over for maintaining the pace of the society. Mahindra has planned a petrol version for every car by year 2020, directly pointing at the development of bigger mFalcon 1.6 L and 2.0 L petrol engines for the desired purpose. The current mFalcon engine is named G80 and it comes with a 3-cylinder configuration. The power production is 82 BHP @ 5,500 rpm and 114 NM @ 3,500 rpm. It is mated to a 5-speed gearbox, delivering great city performance and making it a decent highway cruiser for sure. The engine is lightweight, made up of aluminum and gets a plastic intake manifold. Here is a general procedure that apply for several cars:, Remove the timing belt/chain, exhaust manifold, intake manifold, all vacuum lines, the cylinder head. Drain out all the oil from the oil pan and remove the oil pan to locate the piston rod bolts or caps nuts. That a generic procedure. On some engine, you need to remove the coolant when in others cases, there are an Intercooler, Turbo, AC compressor in the way and that need attention. On some cars, you need to move the engine completely out of the car. In some others like the Fiero GT V6, just remove it from it mount (5 hours). Wear or Damage: If there is damage in the cylinder or simply, the engine has a lot of mileages, it will need to be overhauled. For example, if the engine is too “Oval”, the ring will never seat properly.
