What type of car do you drive and what does that say about you?

I drive perhaps one of the best drivers cars ever, a 1989 BMW 325I coupe with the five speed manual trans. The E30. This is my actual car. Though you are more likely to see this view. I have had it this long. I count sixteen years. Bought for $300 with a broken timing belt, bent valves, blown out suspension, bald tires, peeling clear coat, a smashed in quarter panel, and a salvage title. Oh, and a broken odometer reading 170,000 miles. What does this car say about me? That I enjoy driving for one thing, another is that I can see the value in keeping this car on the road. I've obviously done lot's of work on it, all myself except for the body work and spray. It says I probably don't use turn signals, but why would I? I have perfect visibility out all directions and am passing you so fast that you are blocks behind me before you notice. It says I drive fast. (At least it used to when I had a sticker in the back window that read “Drive it like you stole it”). That I know myself good enough to stay in a “fast slow” car. I mean, it has a great power to weight ratio, a free revving l6, and the manual box. It feels faster than it is and if I had a faster car I would be in jail. Previous vehicles include; 88 Volkswagen cabriolet, red/white top. 5 speed 84 Ford E150 van l6 three on the tree 91 Chevy one ton van with diesel and auto for hauling (current) 62 Mercury Park Lane, 428 Pi Datsun b210, Honda Civic cvcc, Toyota Hilux pickup. 1981 Chevy Chevette, that I traded for a 76 Mercury Montego 69 cougar, 351W, fmx auto 72 Mustang grande. 351C auto The Windsor would roast the tires off the cougar. The Cleveland wouldn't get out of it's own way till you hit 70. I understand gearing, but fundamentally different motors 67 mustang FB, non runner. 64 Valiant coupe slant six three on the tree 61, 62, 63, 66, 68, 72 Ford trucks. The 68 was 4x4 76 BMW 2002, manual 72 BMW Bavaria. Manual Current project is a 1963 F100 longbed. It will be running a 5.0 HO and five speed out of the doner 92 fox body Mustang. I'm sure I missed a few, 74 ElDorado,and I'm sure I got the years wrong on a couple.

What was the ugliest car you owned but was so dependable you didn't want to get rid of it?

Here’s one of my first vehicles, my 1975 Toyota Hilux which I bought from my brother, shown here in 1986. It couldn’t actually ,attain, highway speed, and had terrible interior heating in winter. It had rust spots all over it, which I expertly covered with radio station stickers, and as the inside had really no padding, I installed my car stereo speakers by attaching the magnets to the metal with a ,click,, and that was it. It ran like an absolute top, and for a teenager like me who was totally ham-fisted as a mechanic and put nothing into maintaining it, that Hilux was indestructo-truck. I regret selling it when it had nothing wrong with it. But I wanted something nicer. In between I had another car, and then in 1989 I bought a hot little ’77 Fiat X-1/9 roadster. I spent the summer doing bodywork and slaving over that thing to get it in perfect shape, and over the next two years it was a novelty if I made it home without the car breaking down or something falling off of it. I learned how to gap spark plugs on freeways, how to reconnect cables in the rain, how to change parts in -20 snow. I eventually gave up on the Fiat because I couldn’t even start the engine anymore without push-starting the car in gear, and it was so rusted that it was getting dangerous to drive. I sold it for peanuts. So, one plain little truck gave me dependable love, and I didn’t appreciate it, and another beautiful model that captured my heart ate all my money and effort and left me with nothing. I’m sure there’s an analogy here that I would rather not think about.

Toyota Takes Its Time With New Features focusing on continuous improvement Toyota cars are more reliable than those from other manufacturers because Toyota ,thinks carefully about upgrades, and hesitates to roll out new features until the company is sure that they’re safe. Sometimes toyota only releases a car to a smaller market before sending it out to bigger markets like America, Europe and China. While other automakers are struggling to outdo each other with the latest tech gadget or steering wheel feature with the policy of planned obscolescense, Toyota takes it slow and considers every change from all possible angles sometimes they even do small changes to the same generation vehicle. Look at the 5th gen 4runner, its been around for a decade. Another thing is this, toyota uses the same parts accross many of their vehicles. Look at the 4.0L V6 engine, toyota uses that in some lexus models, toyota hilux, land cruiser 70 series, older tacoma, camry, hilux surf, fortuner, and a few more. This increased attention to detail means that Toyota cars, trucks, SUVs, and vans never get rushed through the manufacturing process. Toyota has a rule to never finish production before time instead you’re rewarded by finishing on time and by stopping production process in order to fix anything that doesn’t seem right in the eyes of any employee in the production process. If Toyota isn’t sure that an upgrade or feature will stand the test of time, they wait until they can conduct more research instead of paying millions on recalls. When you’re shopping for a car that your children will ride in, you want to know that the vehicle will make it to your destination safely with as few amount of problems as possible. This fact could also relate to the company’s origins. The Japanese are known for their conservative approach to business and innovation. Toyota is a meticulous manufacturer with superb foresight that doesn’t worry about rolling out the hottest new feature to get profiled in the magazines. Toyota Focuses on Function Over Form Some consumers avoid Toyotas because they won’t necessarily get the greatest power, the most torque, or the fastest wheels in the bargain. This is true—Toyota vehicles stand out thanks to their understated elegance. They handle well, offer superior comfort, and infrequently break down. This focus on function over form might sacrifice excitement and intrigue, but it also produces a safer car that won’t break down as often. This isn’t to say that Toyota cars are ugly, powerless, or inefficient. On the contrary, toyota cars consistently garner rave reviews from critics and consumers alike. However, the focus on economy and reliability improves public perception and creates a fierce customer loyalty. Toyota Cars are practically overbuilt on purpose When buying a new (or gently used) car, the sticker price doesn’t constitute the entirety of your investment. You have to consider the total cost of ownership (TOC), which goes down the longer you drive your car. Since Toyota leads the pack in ,longest-lasting cars,, it’s safe to assume that Toyota’s reliability stems from its ability to stand the test of time. If you want a reliable partner on the road, consider investing in a Toyota. You’ll enjoy enhanced value and increased reliability as a result.

They either use sheet metal or stainless steel as body panels.
